Which do you prefer? I enjoy both but I choose Gettysburg simply due to the story being shown from both sides.

I enjoy Gettysburg much more.

Too bad they couldn't finish the trilogy off.

Gettysburg is far superior. Not even close.

Prefer Gettysburg. Better told. Better production. IMO. But, not by much. The lead up to Fredericksburg, the battle, and its aftermath are worthy of Homer. Marye's Heights and the areas around the reconstructed stone wall are haunted. And then there's this.

Isn't Gods and Generals basically a Civil War reenactment disguised as a feature film?

There really never has been a good civil war movie based on a battle and the leaders and soldiers. There probably never will be given the attendant political stuff.

Gettysburg is probably as good as it gets (or will get) as far as Civil War movies.

I don't think it was that bad, but Gettysburg is much more the superior product. The battle scenes in Gods and Generals were excellent I think, but there is just a lot of talk in between. Just long winded conversations. Much more than there was in Gettysburg.

The soundtracks for both movies are outstanding.

Its just frustrating that a period that epic, the battles, the men, the leaders, has never gotten proper treatment.

Next movie will have Stonewall played by a sassy black tranny.

But seriously, the final Stonewall battle in G&G was excellent. Really enjoyed watching the Confederates wreck shop on the northerners.

G&G got heat when it was released because it didn’t portray the Confederates as evil people.

I think they are two different movies with two different objectives. Gods and Generals really focuses on the characters primarily Stonewall Jackson who is a complicated character and I think that Stephen Lang just nails it as Jackson

Arent Americans. They invaded US soil and surrendered their US citizenship when they became traitors.

They in effect become a foreign invader .

You don't betray the Empire and get away with it.

I wish we would become a real Empire.

I far more enjoyed going to one than actually watching that film.

I went to the Battle of Shiloh reenactment over two days...and it was better than a Hollywood reenactment because the soldiers stayed in character in the camps at all times.

Doesn't Hollywood just use Civil War reenactor volunteers for all their battle scenes since they need little training and direction?

I love it when internet terds get angry over people that died 300 years ago and try to talk tough as if that's going to hurt their feelings.

They should. But they won't. As another person stated, unless you paint the Confederates as all evil racist murderers and that the only reason teh war was fought was to keep blacks in chains, then it wont' be made. We live in a time now where history is only accepted, if it paints the correct SJW picture.

Hell, you can't even make a WW2 movie anymore if you don't have x number of minorities, regardless if that is factually accurate or not.

Damn man that is a great idea. Can you imagine a well done series like that covering the 7 Days battles or the Overland Campaign (The Wilderness, Spotsylvania Courthouse, Cold Harbor).
