Wildfire. Remember the vision that Bran had of King's landing going up in green flames? That never happened in the past. Jamie killed the Mad King before he could burn KL down with wildfire.

It makes sense in the context of what they presented on the show. He saw the Blackfish allow him to potentially be hanged, Jaime drove home the point about being fiercely protective of your children (which he has not seen his son or Frey wife that he actually cares about) and that would allow that to happen. Edmure has always been weak like that, even in the books.
It just bothered me bringing the Blackfish back just so he'd die in a shitty off screen sword fight.
