The newest episode improved on that IMO, however, I just can’t see letting things go the way these characters do.

I like the slow burn concept of this show. In today’s world with shows streaming on more apps than I can keep up with, it’s nice to have something to look forward to on a Sunday. Hopefully with Amazon money behind it, it won’t crap the bed.

Lost was one of my top 10 shows I’ve watched and unless Im misremembering it I found that show to be just as slow and nearly every episode for the longest time over the first few seasons just created more questions than answers.

Seems to me this show is intentionally directed in a similar pattern to Lost and that’s what I compare it to, just in a horror setting instead. Lost was a pretty popular show and I think on a cable network/platform this show would be a lot more popular too.

The comparisons to lost are probably why I’m able to convince myself to stick with it though. oddly enough I’m one of those people that can’t stand horror and go out of my way to avoid that genre. yet this show has me tuning in every Sunday for weekly premieres which I haven’t done since HoD, and before that probably Breaking Bad.

I’m interested in the mystery and fully expect the mystery of what the creatures are gets revealed and they eventually make it home, just like the Others are revealed and flight gets found in Lost.

Nah I feel like Lost gave you a new question at least to string you along. That’s what made it so addicting.

What knew question did we get this episode?

I’m not bailing, but it’s killing me that no one is discussing with one another the experiences they’ve had.

Agreed.

I'm not bailing on the show...I actually really like it a lot. And I like the slow burn-ness of it. As I've said previously though, I do hope we get at least SOME answers this season and that the story progresses a little bit. I do think that the Jade/Victor thing is headed toward some sort of progress though.

I'm interested to see how Sara fits into the town now that she's back. Everybody that hates her has confronted her (Kenny and Jim's family), and she seemed to ingrain herself a bit with Elgin. She really should explain to people the deal with her arms and the messages she was getting from this place; I think that would help.

My biggest gripe with people not sharing information is Boyd though. Dude, you're stuck in basically a time-looped type place beyond reality, and everybody is trying to figure out how to get the frick out of there. So just sit a few people down (Donna, Jade, Jim, Kenny, Kristi) and explain what's happening to you and what all you've seen, and maybe get somewhere closer to figuring this place out. Explain the spiders, the faraway trees and where you went (and that you found some dude strapped to the wall and he infected your blood with his and gave you worms), the tent happenings, the lighthouse, the shite with Sara and Father Khatri, etc.

I'm interested to see if this new hothead dude (Randall) tries to sit on top of the bus at night at some point. I assume that would not end well. Wasn't the very first scene of the show an old lady monster at a second story window? I just am not sure what reason he would have for putting a seat on top of the bus.

I need the show to get Jim back into the fray. They've completed neutered him since the house collapse. He's basically the "main character," yet all he's done lately is limp around and half-talk to people. I did like that he sort of confronted Boyd this week though, and talked about how whether or not they agree/disagree, they need to work together to figure this shite out.

While things haven't really progressed much yet (if at all), we're still only at the halfway point of the season (this was E5), so there is still plenty of time to do so. And based on the previews for next week, we at least seem to see Boyd talk to Kristi about the shite going on with him.

For whatever reason, I am loving this show more than usual. I legit look forward to it every weekend.

Boyd's definitely hiding the most cards, but everybody in town has a little something they're hiding. Put it all on the table and see what pieces you can fit together!

So, I'm about to step back from this thread, but I hope it keeps going. The show is great.

I watched 1-2 episodes into season 2, but then started a rewatch. My son hadn't seen any, when I binged season 1 last week. So, I talked him into sitting down last night with me, and we watched the first 2.

Just to show how good this is: we discussed it after those first two episodes, and he said it was seriously fricked up, that the show creators need to have a psych eval . Like, seriously dark and twisted shite.

I said, yeah, it's messed up, but what do you think about the characters so far? I let him talk, and did not help or give hints. This is what he came up with, 2 episodes in, no spoilers given (and when I said a name, he knew who it was):
Boyd/sheriff= probably not a real "sheriff", but an assertive guy who leads and pushes people. Problem solver. Probably got chosen by the others because he gets things done.
Donna= tough old bird who can put on a front, but is suffering from PTSD.
Sara= crazy, schizophrenic, hearing voices. Should never be left alone, someone should always keep an eye on her.
Kristi= college kid with enough training to be a functional medic, who likely will grow into her role as "doctor" if she can live long enough. Right now, very scared, but gets by because she knows enough to be competent at what she does, and that helps her to stay positive.
Frank= the frickup dad, a "1 more beer" guy that always becomes 5 more, that gets sloppy and makes fatal mistakes.
Fatimah= a "big sister" who is trying to stay level, who seems to be able to cope with things.
Kenny= really just a kid, trying to be a grownup now.
Nathan/Sara's brother= a farm boy, who is trying to help his sister, but will probably realize he's in over his head with her, and will seek help with her. My son thinks he will turn to Boyd.
The priest= doing priest stuff, sorta necessary in a situation like this. He mentioned he's surprised we haven't seen a church in the town.
Victor= creepy, but harmless. A child in a man's body, acting like a child.

Ellis= clearly hates his dad for something. What my son deduced was fascinating, because he was right, and I didn't see this that early in the show: he said there's no mom, and thus she's dead, likely because of the monsters. And that Ellis is mad, because Boyd probably got her killed... but because of the way Boyd is, he probably did that by choosing to save Ellis instead. And thus Ellis is mad at both of them, and that's why he doesn't want to be around Boyd now- it would remind him that he's the reason Mom is dead.

The RV family=
Jim/Dad= guy who tries to handle things and will push to get things done.
Tabby/Mom= seems to be acting on emotions, instead of reasoning things out. Something is gnawing at her.
Julie= teen girl going through "a phase", but seems to like her family... but isn't the favorite child. Jim and Tabby seem to like to yell at her.
Ethan/little boy= he's getting babied and coddled, mom and dad are feeling guilty about something.

Jade- I didn't even ask about him, but my son said the other guy in the wreck (Jade) would be a druggie, but with the car being nice he's not a loser. Probably a snotty rich dude going to party. When he wakes up, he will be snotty, but also may do a lot to figure out what's going on.

So, my son initially said it wasn't interesting, but after I let him talk about the characters, he said yeah, there's a lot of story already there to build on. He said the monsters seem vampirish, but not vampires, and he's trying to figure out where he knows them from (said something from myths or legends). He suggested sirens, luring people to destruction.
He seems to have a better handle on some of the characters than I did at that point; so we're going to watch this together and see where it goes. I hope to back back up to speed in a couple weeks.

these are the most fair complaints of the show I’m seeing. I don’t agree about the general bad acting, I think it’s just the writing.

Just as you point out here and as a few others have pointed out at different times, it would make a lot more sense if the townspeople were more open and sharing their experiences with each other. A lot of them keep having scary visions and then not telling anyone. Who tf in this scenario would be keeping all this creepy shite to themselves? Then walking back to where those creatures sleep all on your own like Tabitha did. frick that!

I mentioned not a fan of horror, so if it were me in any of these predicaments you bet your arse I’d be in the colony house surrounding myself with as many people as possible and mentioning every thing I notice to anyone that will listen to try and figure out what the hell is going on here

Between this & people acting so incredulous when they *are* told things (Boyd’s son acting like he was insane when he described the tree teleportation; Jim’s reaction to hearing electrical cords aren’t hooked up to anything), I was getting pretty annoyed. I suppose it’s expected for them to cling to any hope of normalcy, but nothing should be surprising after spending months/years stuck in this world.
