A special one-week run of Free Solo in select IMAX theaters (Jan 11-17) was announced a couple of weeks ago:

https://deadline.com/2018/12/natgeos-free-solo-to-scale-imax-in-one-week-run-1202524101/

EDIT 1: After Free Solo was nominated for an Academy Award in the documentary category, they decided to do another one-week run in IMAX theaters, Feb 1-7. Check your local IMAX if you haven't seen it yet. New trailer in my last post below.
quote:

"The IMAX release of Free Solo will be digitally remastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology."

EDIT 2: Free Solo wins the Oscar for Documentary Feature! It debuted commercial-free on the National Geographic channel on March 3.

I dunno if they do it in Louisiana, but check out the Real Rock movies that come out occasionally. They are smaller doc's about rock climbing.

Bumpity bump.

It's finally here, Free Solo in IMAX! (OK, maybe not in Weezyanna, but you can always road-trip to Houston if you're motivated.)

When it first came out, I saw it in a theater with a small screen, and we were late so we had to sit way in the back. So the picture was way too small. I'm really looking forward to seeing the dizzying viewpoints of Alex and El Capitan on a huge screen.

One week only! Check to see if it's playing at your local IMAX!

Watched it on Netflix today. That was a great Star Wars movie. Rian Frickstick totally shite on Ron Howard’s solid movie. I loved Solo

I just saw it too, and it was spectacular. This film needs to be seen in IMAX. Just a few days left, catch it if you can!

Missed IMAX by a week. Only one theater is showing it in standard this week. Went to see it anyway.

Watching it gave me the same type of feeling as sky diving, albeit much less intense.
Just watching him do it turned on that primal fear and excitement inside of me.

It's hard to explain the emotions you experience when watching a movie about someone dancing that intimately with death for the 4 hours of his climb. He knew his risks, planned meticulously to manage it, and told his smoking hot girlfriend that he wasn't willing to sacrifice his dream of climbing it for her or anything (even if it meant he may die).

An excellent film and character study.
Totally worth the watch!

I haven't bought a movie in years. I'm buying this one!

In addition, they released a new trailer mentioning the award nominations, and featuring epic trailer voice guy!

I've seen it twice in AMC lieMAX and it's fantastic. Just sit towards the front and it will fill your field-of-view. There's no way they could have filmed it in IMAX, so the smaller presentation is fine, it's still big and crystal clear.

Wtf?!? Not in theaters the one week I'm in Houston?!?
Shown in IMAX the week before and the week after. That's really sucks.

Saw it today in IMAX. Last 20 minutes was intense, as were the training climbs. I wish they would have shown more of his final ascent. Way, way too much time spent on girlfriend "drama". Recommend Meru to see Jimmy Chin in action too. + Valley Uprising (also on Netflix) for history of rock climbing in Yosemite.
