I watched the first season about two years ago, and found it very hard to get into. But I picked it back up earlier this year to see if it ever lived up to its hype.

Slow series, with some annoying characters...but after season three, things really start to pick up - rapidly. Season five was certainly the best (especially the final 4-5 episodes). During these final episodes, I found there to be a lot of hidden meanings that weren't so apparent in the earlier seasons. Though Walt never did drugs, it was apparent that he was clearly addicted to cooking them...and all of the "you've got to believe me," "things are going to get better," "one last cook," "start a new life..." made it even that much more clear.

All of the characters (except for the son & sister in law) got way more tolerable as the season went on. Seasons 4 & 5 made this series very entertaining & worth watching.

I am in the middle of my first complete rewatch. I would always watch an episode here and there when they did a marathon on the weekends, but this is my first time watching start to finish since the show ended.

I feel like the pace is actually much quicker the second time around. hell, I even like the Fly episode after watching it the second time (I was this close to skipping it. glad I didn't). The only thing that I don't really like is Jesse's foray into his drug rehab group. Those scenes seem a little long and go on and on over the course of many episodes. Realizing that it was part of his character development, though, helps out a bit.

Great great great series, though, and I've been flying through the episodes.

If it weren't for the last 5 episodes, I'd probably agree with you.

But the way it ties addiction into the drug realm, without Walt ever doing drugs...I found it to be quite sneaky. The last episode of Walt saying to his wife - "I did this for me. I felt alive," was pretty powerful to wrap up the whole story. That segment was critical to the series.

3 and 4 were the peak of the show. 5 was mediocre and cartoonish

Agree.

I think that's a bit harsh. The Nazis were pretty lame and the machine gun was too over the top.

I think they got more right than they got wrong. Ozymandias may be the best episode of any show ever. The concept of the disappearer is pretty awesome.

The pressure to pay the fans off had to be on, and they probably decided to error on the side of too much instead of leaving everyone unsatisfied. I do love that WW dies in the end though.

You cannot tie the series together without Season 5. Yes, Seasons 3 & 4 were the peak of the drug slinging...but they lacked suspense. Season 5 brought it all in.

I do agree with this. The Nazis seemed a bit 'thrown in' to have such a major role.

I disagree, I think if it ended with S4 and him telling Skyler “I won” it would have been perfect

I think the story had to end with Walt and his internal struggle, as well as his dealing with the consequences of his family and friends finding out.

they ended S4 the way the did bc the show hadnt been renewed and they wanted it to be a satisfying ending just in case it didn't carry on. i wouldve been fine if that were the case.

but yes, ozymandias needed to happen

Fair review. I think it's very overrated, but I still give it 3 out of 4 stars for the whole series.

The last 2 or 3 episodes right before the final were the best. It was basically high art - Weiner level Mad Men stuff.

I thought the Nazi compound was absurd. As was the Meth Damon character. He goes from a wide-eyed orders-follower to killing a kid in cold blood for the operation? Just stupid.

Also, the show came dangerously close to jumping the shark on the one season finale when half of Gus' face got blown off and he still walked out of the room.

My favorite aspect of the show is that Walt clearly broke bad very early...and the series arguably becomes about Hank. The single best moment was when Hank put the garage door down.

The drug rehab bits always seemed like one day the creators suddenly realized that Aaron Paul is a fricking AMAZING actor, and they needed a way to show off the fact that the show had such a ridiculous talent.

Is BB worth a rewatch? I’ve rewatched several other series but not sure if this one would make a good one due to knowing all the spoilers.

For example, stuff like the office you can pick up little jokes and such.

Breaking Bad is one of the greatest shows ever.

I've watched it 3 times and thinking about doing another rewatch.

Every season is great, I disagree that season 5 is cartoonish. The Nazi group and machine gun scene are totally plausible.

They turned a high school chemistry teacher into a drug kingpin staring down the cartel, local drug lord, and DEA, and you thought it got cartoonish at the end with the machine gun?

Honestly, I didn't embrace the show early on until I came to see it as something like a comicbook origin story for the mad scientist in the black hat. If the whole thing had been a straight story about drug dealers, I probably never would have gotten into it at all.
