Finally watched Last of the Mohicans

Why do so many people say this is a good movie? There's zero chemistry between Hawkeye and Cora but suddenly he's willing to be burned alive to save her. Apparently to fall madly in love with someone in the 1700s you just had to stare at each other back and forth for about 45 minutes until you finally make out and then it's official.

The fight scenes are a joke and poorly choreographed. At one point Hawkeye is fighting a savage, he gets him on the ground and slaps him in the face with a tomahawk. Not with the sharp part, he lightly slaps the guy in the face with the flat part of the tomahawk and the guy dies instantly. Such attention to detail, no wonder they had to push back the realease by a few months.

Don't even get me started on the script. "Stay alive, no matter what occurs!"

Daniel Day-Lewis is my favorite actor but I was disappointed with him here. I read that he lived in the wilderness for a month to prepare for the role. All he fricking does is run through the woods. What am I missing here?
