Fantastic series. While the actor for uhtred may not fit the physical characteristics from the book I think he captured the tone of the character. Alfred is just absolutely spot on. Absolutely fantastic casting with him

True. I don't know if there shield wall battle sequences are as good as they could be, but at least they try to do it right at times.
So few shows do justice to ancient battle formations - phalanx, legion, schiltron, etc. The main notable exception for me is the opening scene of Rome. Also, GoT has had a couple of quality scenes in the Battle of the Bastards with the encirclement and the cavalry charge breaking it, and in The Long night, with the Unsullied covering the retreat to the castle.

The books focus so much more on battle tactics than ASOIAF

Fan of the way he was portrayed not a huge fan of the character. I'm glad Uhtred got to rough him up a little bit.

It always felt like Alfred had some sense of Christian compassion fighting to get out. and she made it her mission to repress that because "it's best for Wessex"
