Watching now on Amazon. Few notes:

- Not the cinematic masterpiece 10 year old me remembers.

- Musical score, kids, and some videography made this movie.

- Dee Williams was a smoke show and I was too young to appreciate it.

I disagree. It is a cinematic masterpiece because of what your 10 year old self remembers and knows about it. No movie quite embraces childhood innocence as well as ET. I think it’s one of the greatest films ever made because of this. If you’re remotely attached to your 10 year old self, I think you should break down in tears at the ending.

the ride at universal is laughable compared to others. you can tell it's an '80's ride.

I never really liked ET that much. It's not terrible, but I just never saw what all the fuss was about. As far as classic movie staying power goes, they probably didn't do themselves any favors by vaulting it for so long.

Its kind of amazing in retrospect that ET was the highest grossing film ever for like 15 years in the 80s and 90s.

Every other top film on that list is either a historical or modern epic or an action/sci-fi/comic book blockbuster.

Although ET had a an element of Sci-fi, it was by no means a science fiction or action or epic film. It was basically just a movie about family and loss and separation and childhood. It's a very intimate movie.

But it tapped you so hard emotionally that it just gutwrenched and engaged the moviegoing public.

I never thought it was close to being Spielberg's best film, but the few times I've watched it as an adult, I just get emotionally harpooned and the flood of childhood memories just overwhelm you. That's why it remains as revered and regarded as it has.

It wasn't a ride but in the 80s on the Universal tour, they'd pick a kid out of the audience and they could ride the bike and then projected on a screen looking like they were the cow that jumped over the Moon.

They did the same thing with Buck Rodgers...and my sister and I did that.

The E.T. thing was lame. At least Buck Rodgers it looked like we were flying through space.

But even after that it was just like, can we go back to the Psycho house and lift the A-Team van again?

Though it is old, I still love it. Great place to cool off on a hot day in the park - and to see if your name gets called at the end.

It is sorta like loving Spaceship Earth at Epcot.

No mention of a Mr. Thompson, Elliot and Gertie's father, anywhere?

I noticed that as a kid, and it seems more significant the older I got.

This was the first movie I can remember seeing in a movie theater. It was at the theater in Cortana.

I would agree... it isn’t necessarily a masterpiece. But it is a top 10 favorite of my lifetime. But I’m 52 and was about the same age as the characters in the movie. It definitely struck a lot of chords with me growing up.

Movie masterpiece? Probably not.

Masterpiece of storytelling? Absolutely.

Lol. You're dumb asf if a contrary opinion makes you like something. I didn't watch E.T. when I was young, there's no nostalgia element to it for me and the story is dumb. If you like it, great, enjoy. Here's another abbreviation for you, gfy.
