‘Days Of Our Lives’ Cast Released From Contracts Amid Renewal Talks With NBC
quote:
The entire cast of NBC’s daytime drama Days of Our Lives are been released from their contracts, Deadline has confirmed.
As first reported by TVLine, the soap will go an indefinite hiatus at the end of the month. The cost-cutting move comes during the usual renewal window between NBC and Days distributor Sony Pictures TV; a renewal for Days typically comes at the start of the year.
According to sources, negotiations for another season of the show on NBC are currently underway.

I didn't realize they still even had any soap operas left on TV.
Years ago, in the late 80s, I worked nights at Fed Ex. I fully admit to watching General Hospital during the days when I'd wake up.

Me neither. I think I spend my soap opera time on the Rant.

My roommate got me addicted to Days of Our Lives in college. It was weird coming home from class to eat and having a bunch of 20 somethings men watching a soap opera.

I was always a Victor Kiriakis person myself .He always struck me as a proper mobster not full of extreme trickery as Stefano
Plus he Sired Jennifer Anniston.

Kind of like what ESPN did before they hired all of the women, and minorities for peanuts.

Would be great if the soap returned as a reality show with an unpaid cast.

I've never heard of anyone referring to their penis as "Spanish" before.

young people today may not understand, but soap operas were once a big deal. Every network had like 3-4 of them and they attracted a lot of pop culture attention. I had numerous female relatives who had VCR's set to record them.
The death of soaps is due to a lot of factors
1. More and better entertainment options, particularly in the internet age. You can watch much better shows on demand now, Netflix, etc. You can also watch them on your own schedule.
2. Fewer stay at home moms/housewives. The target audience for these shows has dramatically shrank the past few decades.

I remember being fascinated with Stefano and one of the women being possessed as a kid.

Phew, I'm glad I wasn't the only one. That daggum Mike and Carrie storyline had me hooked though.

They've also aged. Look at Y&R. When's the last decade it added truly major characters?

I watched DOOL in college mainly because I'd been obsessed with Deidre Hall since her Electra Woman and Dynagirl days in the 70s.
