Poli discussions on M/TV are a direct result of the rise of "wokeness" in pop culture. Anti-SJWs are at least as annoying as the "woke".
Most of the political sidetracking I've seen here appears to come directly from a need to be offended.
That dude from South Carolina is the worst. Anything that he can view as a personal attack is viewed as exactly that.
I imagine this board has always been like this to some level.

1. Carano was targeted before the SJW outrage, because her Cara Dune popularity proves Kennedy wrong in her assertion that Star Wars fans are misogynistic pricks who simply won't accept or support strong female characters
This is completely believable. She singles out Carano's character because she is white and Carano has conservative leanings personally. She ignores the Fanboy's love for Ahsoka because she is played by a POC, at least in live action. This also destroys the "fanboys are misogynists" myth.
She continues to fail at understanding that fans do not have a political agenda. They want to be entertained and have fun in the SW Universe. They want to see characters that are appropriately developed.
Cara Dune, while we did not see her backstory on screen, had a history that was told to us and it made sense based on existing canon. Her skills displayed were appropriate for her backstory. Also, she was not the main character. Her origin story did not need to be fleshed out.
Ahsoka had hours devoted to telling her story. We watched her grow from a padawan to master level force user in Rebels. Kennedy expected us to fawn over Rey and her god level powers, and when that backfired, we were all mysoginistic assholes.

-Disney was right to fire her, after going to bat for her for a year. She was warned many times
within their rights is not the same as "was right." yes they were certainly within their legal rights to fire her, but they were never right, i.e. correct, to do so.

-Rosario Dawson, Pedro Pascal, and others on the show have tweeted far worse things
-Krystina Arielle should be fired, because she keeps posting racist shite
-There is a double standard in the media that protects inflammatory Democrats, and punishes inflammatory Republicans
All of this explains why. You either have rules that apply to all or don't have those rules at all

Sign of the times, I suppose.
Everyone seems to need politics in every aspect of their lives.

Both are correct. She was warned how many times? I wouldn't have someone that embarrassed my company working for me, either.

This is an admirable thought, but it isn't reality, particularly in the film industry.

It doesn’t apply to anything to do with private business. Short of an air tight clause in your contract granting you the right to say anything you want when not on the job, employers have the right to discipline and fire you for social media posts.
