Now retitled "Doogie Kamealoha, M.D."

quote:

Written by Kourtney Kang and set in present-day Hawaii, Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. reimagines the Neil Patrick Harris-starring Doogie Howser M.D. as a half-hour medical dramedy with a female lead. It follows Lahela “Doogie” Kamealoha (Peyton Elizabeth Lee), a 16-year-old mixed-race girl who juggles a budding medical career and life as a teenager. Guiding Lahela — and also complicating things — is her family, including her spitfire Irish mother Dr. Clara Hannon (Perkins), who’s also Chief of Staff at the hospital and Lahela’s supervisor, and her Hawaiian “Local Boy” father (Jason Scott Lee) who struggles to accept that his daughter is no longer his little girl.

I don’t understand why they call her Doogie.

Just give her another name and they can ALMOST call it an original show. But attaching Doogie to it automatically gives it the “just another remake” stigma.

This. 90% of movies and TV shows are recycled anyway. But at least let the original and new characters be stand-alone characters.

Didn’t read the article but let me guess, black female lead?

ETA: saw it’s a mixed race female. I was close.

After looking at the upcoming shows for Paramount +, it seems safe to say that EVERY show that has ever existed is getting a reboot.

I like how racial stereotypes are OK if it is at the expense of white people.

TV Exec #1: "So first we get the rights to an old show with a big nostalgia factor! Start with a built-in audience!"

TV Exec #2: "Solid foundation right out of the gate!"

TV Exec #1: "Right! Then we change core elements of the show in ridiculous ways, to the point it no longer even resembles the original, pissing off all of those people so much they never even give us a chance!"

TV Exec #2: "Brilliant! Then a handful of people who didn't care about the original might tune in for the pilot before checking out like everybody else! We can't miss!"

I think youre being dramatic. the show is still about a teen doctor.

they only changed it from the white devil to a underrepresented oppressed multi-minority herx (the gender-nonspecific term for hero I just now came up with and if you dont agree youre a bigot). Other than that I look forward to teen hijinks of medical care.

Are the actors actually related?

Also another question. How do they get the nickname “Doogie” out of Lahela Kamealoha?

This kind of lazy arse “creativity” is just sad. Simply take anything previously done and “reboot” it with a minority female as the lead. And somewhere people will be shocked when this thing tanks.

I wonder if they’ll touch on how viciously racist native Hawaiians are to whites. Can’t wait for the “kill haole day” episode.
