Four months after hiring Paddington helmer Paul King to direct its new Willy Wonka movie, Warner Bros. has begun putting together a shortlist of stars for the titular role, and we hear it’s led by Ryan Gosling, Donald Glover and Ezra Miller.

The project hails from Harry Potter producer David Heyman and screenwriter Simon Rich (Man Seeking Woman), and it’s rumored to be a prequel that will explore Wonka’s origin story. How did he amass his fortune, and perhaps more importantly, how did he meet those Oompa Loompas?

Michael Jackson did it.

Seriously though why can't a good story with good actors just be fun to watch without trying to impart some fisking analysis as to why they didn't do it the old way.

Give them each a Willy Wonka movie. Make three movies. Make ten.

None will compare to the original or the porn-parody "Will He Wonk Her".

I guess Hollywood has just completely given up on original thought

I think any of those three could do wildly better than Depp. oddly enough I think Gosling could pull it off the best. Granted, the original is untouchable.

Is it too much to ask for some originality from Hollywood? Seems an ever increasing portion of new releases are remakes or delayed additional installments to movies that premiered long ago.

You mean like when they adapted the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory instead of creating something completely new?
