quote:Damn that's saying something. I'm not a big inglorious basterds fan but I know a lot of people are so I can't wait to see this
anyways, I'd rate this movie slightly above Inglorious Basterds

The only movie left of 2012 I want to see. Can't wait!

So what you're telling me is, the dialogue is better than Inglorious Basterds?
I'm not going to delve into comparing the dialogue of both movies but I would agree with the poster who said he enjoyed DU more than IB. I would agree with that and I'm a big fan of IB.

I heard an interview this week where Tarantino said his first choice for the role was Will Smith. But after sitting down with Smith and watching him read the script and his reactions, he felt Smith couldn't pull off the "angry slave" persona of the Django character and opted for Foxx. His decision paid off in spades (SWIDT) because Foxx was fantastic.
Tarantino said none of that. He said that him and Will Smith couldnt get things completely done because Will was still working on Men In Black 3. Will said if you cant find anybody, come back later. Tarantino ended up meeting Jamie Foxx and knew right away that he was the guy.
Im glad you said his performance was great. Im looking forward to it.

QT was just on Stern this week. He loves Will Smith and they hung out a while talking about the script and decided he wasn't the best for this part.

When the trailer was on last night, I told my wife and kid, "Screw Santa, we're hitting Django on Christmas day." The kid is all for it (he's 13). He and I both cite "Basterds" as our favorite movie. I can't recall a movie he and I have anticipated more than Django. Makes me proud to know that he anticipates the next Tarantino flick more than the typical summer superhero fare.

Thank you. I was referencing the Stern interview.

Why did I come in here to see Waltz' character dead?

I heard the Stern interview and an interview he gave a couple months.
He said nothing about Will not being right for the part. He said they had a couple differences that they had to get ironed out first. They didnt have time to do that, so they both agreed to move on.
It was Stern who insinuated that Will wasnt right for the part. Not QT. They just moved on because of scheduling difficulties.

You didn't. That's not Waltz.

How violent was the movie on a scale of 1-10? We had talked about seeing it over christmas. My mom can handle shootings but shes not a huge fan of stabbings, scenes of torture, or over the top violence.

I'd say a solid 9. I think Tarantino covered all three of the latter categories, particularly the last one.
Probably not a good flick for your mom to be honest. Especially the latent profanity and use of the "n" word throughout.

Your 13 year old sons favorite movie is inglorious Basterds? Django has Violence on a scale of a good 9, dropping the N word at a record setting level
and your 13 year old is going to love it. Yeesh.

Great to hear.
I met with one of the EP's recently and he told me that Leo's character would steal the show and that he would be QT's best villain yet... Including Waltz from Basterds.
That true? I found that hard to believe, regardless... looking forward to it.
