This movie is absolutely brilliant.

Fantastic (yet odd) plot and excellent acting.

Looks like the TD consensus of DFS is that it blows but I’ll chalk that up to the fact that this film lacks toilet humor. DFS doesn’t deliver the cheap laughs but has enough irony and character redemption to make for a great movie.

Full disclosure: its taken about 3-4 times now for me to decide that I love this movie. Matter of fact, I really didn’t care for it the first time and only watched it again because I was high and didn’t feel like changing the channel.

I watched it in the theater and didn't enjoy it all that much. Saw the last 45 minutes of the movie about a month ago, and really found myself enjoying it a lot more the second time

Movie's weird. It watches like a warm fuzzy "redemption comedy" but the script is littered with lazy dialogue and you never really figure out how much Barry (Steve Carell) is in on his own joke. Which, I believe is zero.

Plus, Paul Rudd reeeallly takes in stride how bad Carell is fricking up his life.

I don’t think Barry is in on his own joke.. we find that out in the end when Rudd’s character explains the dinner is for the biggest idiot and he’s pissed that he won’t win.

Yes Paul Rudd does take his F’d up situation in stride. That’s just the absurdity of it all, reminds me of an older comedy. It’s a mad mad mad world comes to mind.

Felt extremely awkward watching the entire thing. Wasn't sure whether it was awful or a really good comedy. Only seen it once in theaters though, so I might enjoy it more a second time.

Those stuffed mice Carell's character does remind me of something Wes Anderson might draw.

Zack G changing colors

Jemaine Clement was pretty damn funny in this, too.

I saw the Dinner Game in 2000 on DVD.

It was different humour. It was pretty damn funny. Nothing spectaculor but a nice small French film.

Maybe it adopted the French humour in the remake and that's why it didn't reasonate in America?

You can't import and remake everything. Look at the J-horror films? I think only the Ring pulled it off as an American version. The rest are bad carbon copies.

Kairo? That's a masterpiece of subtle horror.

Pulse? stinks.

I like it, it has a lot of funny stuff but also a much deeper message underneath the surface. Lucy Punch is hilarious in this one.

I think its pretty funny. Didn't know to make of it the first time I saw it. Watched it again a couple times over the years and actually quite enjoy it now. But it is an odd movie for sure.
