First 4 seasons are great.
The rest is hit or miss and the last season is largely dogshit.

i sort of liked s5.
dexter was awesome though, especially early on.

Stop after season 7. Skip the last season. 5,6,7 aren’t great but stopping at 7 would’ve been a much better ending than why we got in the last one imo.

1-4 outstanding. 4 is an all time elite season of television.
5 is pretty good and ends on a nice wrapping up point where you don't miss much if you stop here.
6 sees a sharp dropoff, 7 is bad, and 8 is utter trash and is essentially a giant "frick you" to anyone still hanging around watching.

A lot of people shite on the last 2 seasons, but I really liked all of it and I've watched the entire series twice.

Just rewatched the entire series. I'd rank the seasons in this order:
1. Season 2. It's kind of a toss-up for me between this season and Season 4 as to which is better. The Bay Harbor Butcher storyline, Sgt Doakes suspicions about Dexter, and new characters like Lila and Agent Lundy put this season on top for me
2. Season 4. I won't argue with anyone who puts this as the best season. The Trinity Killer has to rank as one of the all-time great TV/movie bad guys
3. Season 1. Great introduction to the characters and the Ice Truck Killer was a great villain.
4. Season 7. Two great new characters in Hannah McKay and Isaac Sirko made this season better than Season 3 for me.
5. Season 3. The Miguel Prado character was never believable for me. But there were some good elements in this season.
6. Season 5. The motivational speaker guy (and his friends) as a serial killer was an interesting idea. The Lumen character, not so much
7. Season 6. Had a few good moments, but the Doomsday Killer storyline was blah.
8. Season 8. Weakest season, and made even worse by that awful series finale
