Long Island Music Hall of Famer Debbie Gibson will star alongside Charlie Gillespie and Anthony Michael Hall in the teen-drama film "The Class."
The Merrick-raised Gibson, 50, will play a high school acting teacher and mentor. Promoted by producers as "inspired by the 1985 classic 'The Breakfast Club,' " the movie is "a true-to-life gritty portrayal of the issues that our young people are facing today," Gibson said in a statement. "Having taught songwriting workshops to help teens express themselves, this piece really resonated with me."

Hall, a star of writer-director John Hughes' "The Breakfast Club," is an executive producer of the film and stars as an antagonistic assistant principal. Gillespie, a star of the Netflix musical series "Julie and the Phantoms," plays a cocky senior who lost his parents at a young age and finds himself and his scene partner pushing each other to their emotional breaking points.

Could be great; probably a train wreck LINK

That makes no sense. The Breakfast Club should never be in a sentence with the word gritty.

She was pretty cute in her teens, in the ' she'd fit right in @ most average High Schools ' sort of way. Not Britney Spears level, but more girl next door.

There's a quite a few movies that should never ever ever ever be remade. The Breakfast Club is one of them. Don't ruin it please.

I watched the first season and thought it was good, never went back, though.

They do suck you in with a nude scene of some pretty incredible breasts in the opening scene, breasts which you never see again in that season.

"The girls go to detention with jocks and get gang-raped as they are told they don't belong in STEM fields, just like what happens daily in high schools across the country."

Well, unless they're using the original cast or characters, it's not really ruining anything, is it? Other than their own careers. ( RIP Vice Principle Vernon. )

It'd be a stretch if they tried to bridge the gap with her being a 'friend' of one of the original cast, now teaching at that same school...

" I once knew a girl who spent her Saturday's in detention here for no reason, what so ever. She had nothing better to do ".
