Despite the unfavorable reviews, we were going to see X-Men Dark Phoenix, but when I look at that big movie poster all I see is Sansa Stark and my wife and I are still pissed at the out come of GOT and decided not to attend attend.

No. It's because the movie absolutely sucks.

Is the Gambit movie dead, or will that happen at some point?

Dead, this will cost Disney over $100 million. Here is where they stand-

quote:

“Dark Phoenix” is intended to mark a culmination of sorts for the “X-Men” saga (at least this iteration of the mutant heroes). Nobody expects one of the biggest film franchises to leave the big-screen for good. However, those dismal ticket sales signal that Disney may need to give the X-Men a break while they recover from a crippling case of franchise fatigue.

quote:

Disney still has its work cut out acquainting itself with its recently added film franchises. Moreover, X-Men’s most successful character Deadpool isn’t the kind of family friendly fare Disney is used to churning out. Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger already promised Ryan Reynolds’ wildly popular hero will have many more lives under the Disney umbrella, but outside of the Merc with a Mouth, the studio will essentially be starting from scratch.

When the studio adjusted its film slate post-merger, “The New Mutants” starring Maisie Williams was pushed back until 2020. Another “X-Men” title, “Gambit” with Channing Tatum, was removed from the schedule entirely.

I think if an X-Men trailer dropped tomorrow with a new cast and a Marvel Studios logo on the front, it would bring in 600 mil with little notice. Fatigue not he franchise isn't the issue, it is franchise erosion behind Fox studios. They kicked it off well and then put Lawrence in front even when her star had burned out a good bit then they put Turner out front for this due to GOT and her star isn't bright enough to carry a movie that has been littered with problems.

You have your stars in Fassbender and McAvoy and they have done much less in the last two movies outside of be screen fodder. None of the actual X-Men, with the exception of Quicksilver, were overly likable in this universe.

I was never going to watch another X-Man movie, if I lived to be a million.

The Marvel Studios branding alone would be enough to bump up the box office quite a bit.
