Pretty good doc on the Friday the 13th series...

But what was startling was some crazy facts:

Friday the 13th Part III was in the theaters for 1 month and made 36 million and its budget was 2 million.

It made 9.5 million it's first weekend.

E.T. made 11 million it's first weekend.

E.T. had been out for 1 month and was the #1 movie in America...but when Friday the 13th Part III came out it bumped E.T. from the #1 spot.

7 of the Top 15 most profitable movies of all-time are horror.

You'd think Hollywood would be turning out this stuff like comic-book movies...about 3 a month. Like flipping a house...do it on the cheap, make a quick buck and go on to the next thing.

They did for a long time. Problem was too many of them were shite and people stopped watching. This decade has been the best in a long time for horror.

It's on Amazon Prime.

And it is REALLY in depth. Every movie is dealt with in depth.

It's almost 7 hours long.

All the actors (except Bacon) - the stuntmen, the directors, the writers.

It covers 30 years of this franchise.

Slaughter University and SleepAway Camp were so 80's. Just kill a bunch of sex crazed teenagers. Not hard to write that script.

The Nightmare on Elm Street doc was fascinating.

I watched all 4 hours of this in one sitting. I really like seeing how they did all those practical effects.

I had been debating picking up Amazon Prime this month to get free shipping on some books, I think its a given I'll be doing so now. This sounds like it would be fascinating to watch.

You'd like this then.

Tom Savini is a major part in the doc as well as the others.

They walk you through all the special effects...the kills, the actors talk about set conditions - being so on the cheap.

An interesting note is throughout the doc, they openly admit they ripped off certain things from certain movies.

The writer of the original was a big fan of Pyscho and thought, lets do that again...let's kill off the supposed main character right away...to jolt the audience into thinking, hey they're not kidding around.

Scream followed suit.

And the set-up girl was set to show the mayham that's about to follow became a staple.

Do they ever talk about Harry Manfredini and the score he made?

The first one scared the frick out of me. We used to have school camping trips around that time.

Also ruined some of the classics for me. I didn't see Chainsaw until after i had seen Friday 13th and it made chainsaw seem kind of tame.

Is this based on gross as a percentage of budget? Which movies are they?

Just an FYI, you have to get Amazon prime then subscribe to another channel in addition to Amazon prime to watch. Some horror channel or Starz. Either is an extra $5 or $6 a month.

The $99 prime subscription isn't enough. I have that and tried to watch it but have to add an additional monthly subscription.
