CODA (AppleTV original) was fantastic.

Highly recommended if you haven't seen or heard of it.
The name CODA means Child of Deaf Adults. It is a great coming of age story about a High school girl who is a talented singer while her entire family is deaf.
She struggles around what to do with college coming up when her family relies heavily on her to translate for them.
Marlee Matlin plays her mom and has held up well for a woman of her age.
It's a really heartfelt story and you will surely shed a tear or two. It makes me very hopeful for AppleTV originals in the future.

One of the best scripts I have ever read. Actually teared up a little.
I was an Art Director on it up in Gloucester during the summer. Beautiful area and lovely crew, especially the director.
A little surprised it's gone under the radar considering the Sundance accolades and great reviews

I had heard it talked about as one of the best movies of the summer and have had it on the list for quite a while.
It was better than I had built it up in my head from all the accolades.

Ok, I will give it a watch. And the art direction BETTER BE GOOD or else you'll be hearing from me.

Finally got around to watching this one.
VERY satisfying all around.. I shoulda known - Marlee Matlin generally doesn't associate with anything but good material.
Slice of life perspective - check.
Coming of age story - check.
Likeable characters - check.
Humor - check. (adult humor even )
High School musical numbers - check.
I think that adds up to = "Something for Everyone" as far as a family-type movie goes.

Great movie. Feels like I saw it a LONG time ago, but I guess it is getting buzz because of award season?

Yeah, it came out over the summer and was nominated for several awards so it's getting it's resurgence which is good since it's probably been overlooked be ause it's on one of the smaller platforms.

Yeah that’s a damn good movie.
Stumbled on it while bored and really enjoyed it. A fresh take on the typical coming of age story. And very well acted

I really liked this movie and the art direction was great. Loved the rugged feel of the New England fishermen culture. The girl/lead was perfect and I enjoyed the relationships with her family. It did a very good job of exploring the challenges and obstacles of being a CODA. That said, I felt the film was a little risk averse at times and the relationships with the boyfriend and teacher were a little one-dimensional/predictable. Would have liked to have seen the stakes elevated in the last act.
The concert scene made the film though. Great way to capture the parents perspective. Good safe movie overall.

As the parent of the opposite of the daughter’s situation - it made for an interesting perspective. I really got wrapped up in it. Any movie that can make me forget it is a movie is cool with me.
