SPOILERS

glossed over the last few pages of this thread but if no one else has said it i'm guessing tori seeing the ref being paid off by silver will come into play with the cheating negating daniel and johnny agreeing to close up their dojos.

thats the angle that will be used..either tori forfeits her win because of that or evidence appears that the ref was being paid by one of the competitors but either way it opens the door for them to continue training.

I still don't get that line.

When Danny was teaching Johnny he stressed defense and avoidance, summing it all up in Mr. Miyagi's philosophy of the best way to win a fight is to simply "no be there" (I think that was the wording, not positive though).

Johnny provoked a fight between Danny and the hockey guys. As the rhetoric was heating up, Johnny left to get something to eat leaving Danny alone to fight them all. After Johnny returned at the end of the fight Danny asked him where he had been (ie: "why didn't you help me?") and Johnny's response was "no be there".

And now for a little deeper dig...

Johnny was showing Danny a couple of things:

1. You can't always avoid fights.
2. The ultimate expression of avoiding fights is to abandon others.

While Johnny got a lot of growth this season, I think the real growth was in Danny. Although Danny was seen by most viewers as the hero because of his restraint, we saw how others interpreted it as weakness (like the rival dealership).

Over-indulging on anything can eventually be bad. Danny over-indulged on passivity and defense. This season was about showing that sometimes strength has to come from strength of aggression instead of just a strong defense (notice Eli didn't win until he let loose).

Yep. I think that will help finish out Tory's character arc. I was really intrigued by the end of their fight when she ran to Sam and asked if she was alright and Sam's utter shock at that.

As I've said before, this show does an amazing job of moving characters back and forth between heel and face in a way that feels far more organic than forced.

My only complaint for season 4... can we get corn rows Cobra Kai brother a line? Dude has been in damn near every episode, and aside from doing fort nite dances in season 2 he has done next to nothing.

He is the most loyal of the Cobra Kai, and the only original one still with the dojo from Johnny to Kreese to Silver.

Finally catching up on the thread.

Am I the only one who thinks the biggest shock of the season is that fricking Demetri made the semifinals? That dude is completely uncoordinated and is a hot garbage fighter. It's hilarious that he gets Jasmine though. It's also funny that the actor is clearly much older now, and it looks like he has to shave before every scene he is in.

The Robby actor did MUCH better this season. I still can't stand the actor, but he was far less annoying this season than any season prior. And I like that he and Jonny made up some ground by the end of the season. That was nice.

Put me in the "this new storyline with Kenny sucks" camp. I liked the idea of the new character, and I appreciate what they were trying to do with Robby seeing himself in Kenny and realizing in the end that sometimes people just turn out bad or whatever. But man that whole thing just fell completely flat for me. Maybe it was because Kenny was unbelievable as some badass karate bully by the end of it, I don't know. I also think it has something to do with the worst character (the Larusso son) being so involved, like someone mentioned. The best part though, was when Daniel goes to school all cocky and finds out it's his son that is being suspended for bullying. They are such awful parents to that kid.

The ghetto Asian kid in Cobra Kai is the most annoying/worst character in the show IMO. My wife and stepdaughter both hate him too. Every line he speaks sounds like he's trying way too hard. It's very strange.

I was glad to see Eli come back down to earth a bit. I hope he is more Eli and less Hawk moving forward, because that whole character arc never made a lick of sense to me, and felt super forced and stupid.

The AV announcer dude seemed like he was trying to do his best impression of the announcer from Battlebots.

I'm interested to see what they try to do with Kreese and his "redemption." The character doesn't seem to deserve it at all, but now that they've one-upped him with Silver, maybe they can pull something off with it.

It feels like a good 75% of the acting on this show is staring at each other or staring in one direction. Especially for people like Kenny, Robby, and Tory.

They can have Kreese do the Hannibal Lector bit and advise Johnny and Daniel from jail.

And, not that Daniel appears to be abiding by it anyway, but that could be the out that allows them to continue training in the Valley. They made that deal with Kreese and he can let them off the hook.

I mean. It was only a handshake deal. I don’t think Daniel or Johnny signed anything hence Daniel asking Miyagi forgiveness for not keeping his word.

Seems they threw the "Silver paying off the ref" in there to abolish the deal anyway. Zero chance Johnny and Daniel abide by the deal once they find out it was rigged (which also means Tory will redeem herself a bit once she tells them what she saw).

Right after typing that post, I went back and watched the scene again. I'd neglected to look at it in context of Johnny giving Daniel shite about not helping Mr. Miyagi with his English.

Here is a couple of takeaways for me this season and i think its going to be the ultimate shocker.

Something that has always bothered me is that Johnny always gets cheated and laughed at by LaRusso on his "form" of Karate. Its actually NOT "The Way of the Fist"..thats just what Kreese and Silver called it. Remember Kreese was taught by his commander, who went behind enemy lines and learned "Tang Soo Do". Now, remember the history of Miyagi-Do? Shimpo Miyagi fell asleep while fishing off the coast of Okinawa and woke up off the coast of China. He returned 10 years later with the secret of Miyagi-Do. I think that at some point, based off of every scroll we see, there are ALWAYS two fighters. I think we will learn that Miyagi-Do and Tang Soo Do are the "yin and the yang". That they "balance" each other out. Daniel is always rubbing Johnny's nose in Miyagi-Do having hundreds of years of tradition...well that's because Johnny doesn't realize he has been taught Tang Soo Do by John Kreese, who learned it from his commander in Vietnam. That would be a really cool way to end the feud...for everyone to realize that one form of karate balances out the other. I hope that's what Chozen brings in season 5. Remember, the agreement was for Daniel and Johnny to stop teaching and for their Dojo's to shut down. The way around that is to OBVIOUSLY have Chozen open up a new dojo called "Miyagi-Fang" and have it be HIS Dojo with Daniel and Johnny as students..."technically" That keeps them in business. Then we FINALLY learn the real secrets of Miyagi-Do and how it is related to Tang Soo Do.

Here is something else that isn't being discussed...Syd!!! We know in real life that Ed Asner has passed. Logically, they have to write him out of the story and the easiest way to do that is to have his character die in the show. What if we find out, that even though they didn't get along, Syd leaves Johnny his estate. He has nobody else in his life and technically, Johnny is his step son. How cool would it be for Johnny to go to Mexico, find Miguel and bring him back. Then he ends up with Carmen. Then he is informed of Syd's death and his millions of inheritance. That allows Johnny to bring in Robby to live with him...Possibly even Tori. Johnny, Carmen, Miguel, Robby, Tori....and Ya ya can all finally live their lives in peace and happiness with no financial worries anymore. That would be a nice way for them all to ride off into the sunset. Johnny finds his love and balance in life. Robby and Miguel eventually become like brothers, to take down Cobra Kai of Silver and Mike Barnes. Miguel ends up with Sam. Robby ends up with Tori. ALL of whom end up with Chozen in Miyagi-Fang...would be a cool

Oh and one more theory...Tori's mom!! There is a reason they haven't shown who she is yet. There has to be some solution to this mystery! Either she dies or they finally reveal who she is. What could be really juicy is if her mom is Hilary Swank!! How crazy would that be? The reason why is Hilary Swank was taught by Mr Miyagi. The one thing we have NEVER been told, is if Daniel LaRusso ever knew that Mr Miyagi had another student? How would he handle that? Would that crush his soul? Think about Sam and Tori's feud...Their mom and dad were BOTH taught by Mr Miyagi and think of the ramifications that would have for LaRusso? Either that or her mother dies and Amanda LaRusso continues her motherly care for Tori and brings her and her brother into their family? Lots of ways this series could go. Ralph Macchio was recently on record specifically talking about Hilary Swank. So maybe something is finally coming on that front?

Dude those are two pretty incredible posts!! Love both of those ideas, of the characters all ending up paired up but especially of the balance of styles between Miyagi and Cobra Kai.

Just one correction, and I’ve been saying this since Kreese showed up and it was obvious Daniel and Johnny would team up to take him down:

Miyagi-Fang

It’s MIYAGI KAI!!!!

This is also a great idea

I posted earlier that I was opposed to Kreese being redeemed, he’s too far gone imo. But sort of tutoring Johnny from behind prison glass in order to take down the guy who betrayed him and set him up by giving him the full history of Tao Su Dung would be perfect.

The idea that Miyagi Do and Cobra Kai are the yin and yang and were created by the two original masters is so cool and no doubt that’s what the show runners had in mind and have been building toward

So this was actually brought up in the S3 thread.

The only reason I don’t think it works is that her mom seems kind of like a dead beat, right? Or is she just really sick? I’d have to go back snd watch all the scenes to be sure.

Also, we met her aunt this season. Was that her mom’s sister or her dad’s? I guess I wasn’t paying close enough attention in that scene.

But if it’s her mom’s sister that would rule this theory out as I’m pretty sure Swank was an only child.

She is sick and cant take care of Tori. They never really say in KK4, if Hilary Swank had any siblings...all we know is her parents die in a car accident IIRC?

While that would be cool, it would sort of go against John's character up to this point. He hated Sid and wanted nothing to do with him or his money. I think even in death John would be too proud to take Sid's money knowing that it would be sort of proving Sid right.
