just watched both movies back to back and i liked both movies, but what a sharp contrast showing 2 very different visions of the directors idea of who winston churchill was

granted the time lines were different but still it was enlightening to see his story told albeit from most likely a warped directors idea of history vs reality, but between both movies i think i saw a somewhat vague version of getting the idea who he was as a man.

but movies are often far from reality as we all know.

Went through the Churchill War Rooms before watching Darkest Hour, it seems to be an accurate description of him.

Darkest Hour got boring after a while. The acting was amazing, but the made up subway scene was laughable. If Americans made a similar historical movie and added a cheesy bs scene like that, it would be mocked unmercifully on the internet for months.

The John Adams HBO movie did a good play on making fun of scenes like this when John Adams corrected the guy who painted the signing of the declaration painting.

Adam's was like "WTF, it never happened like that!"

I enjoyed The Darkest Hour as cinema. However, Churchill was never as irresolute in May 1940 as portrayed in this film and several scenes (the tube/subway) are utter fiction. His due that we owe him is that in all likelihood this conversation we’re having now may have been in German but for Winston Spencer Churchill.

I guess by now you’ve ascertained I had something to say about the Churchill thing. No clue as to why I inundated the thread with 4 posts on the same track except being a geezer retard and until Christmas, I still carried a flip phone. Night.
