Sources tell Variety that McQuarrie has signed back on to return to write and direct the next two films in the popular franchise. Sources also add that both films would be shot back-to-back — not unlike the final two “Avengers” sequels — in order to take advantage of the popularity of the series, with the first bowing summer 2021 and the second coming out in summer 2022. The release comes in 2021 to avoid conflict with Paramount and Cruise’s next big venture, “Top Gun: Maverick.”

Wish they kept Henry Cavill alive for this one and allowed one of the bombs to go off, but it was still spectacular. Looking forward to it.

Cruise will be 60, I wonder if these will be his last two MI films? Either way, this is the best current action franchise by far.

Even with his age, they could progress the story line with him moving into more of a Jim Phelps type role in IMF

I was fine with Cavill dying. I just wish they hadn't made him such a loser wimp. He was supposed to be the top guy and he just failed everywhere. The only fight he won was against Alec Baldwin.

I don't even know what actor could take over the main role in Mission Impossible and succeed.

Shia Lebouf should be handed the reigns.

They will have to do an entire new reboot and it won't be nearly as good. Cruise is the glue that keeps everything together.

This is super good news, the last few have been excellent, particularly Fallout (and the whole series is great).

They will probably need to pass the torch, and I hope that's part of the storyline. But they'll need someone who can match Cruise's charisma.

About the only actor I could think of is probably Chris Pratt. Cavill would have been alright

That's what I could see. Cruise would be the lead and star of the next one and then take a IMF leadership role in the second one to be filmed.

I highly doubt it. Even when (if) he stops doing action, Ethan Hunt will probably take over as IMF Secretary and keep the movies going forever.

With Chris Evans being done with the MCU, maybe him?

That's an interesting choice actually.
