The Alabama Theater is showing Casablanca for Valentines Day. Normally, the wife and I stay around the house to avoid the crowds and wait times. This year, we are going to this. I love the movie and she could live without it, but it'll be neat to see it in the theater.

Have they upgraded their sound system in recent years? Last time I went to a movie there, you could barely even hear the dialogue from the first row of the balcony. This was 4 or 5 years ago for Christmas Vacation.

My wife hates old movies for some reason, and even she fell in love with Casablanca the first time I made her watch it.

That was my go-to Valentine's date for years.

Thanks for the heads up. We went one year and did a Moroccan themed dinner (w belly dancer) at that failed restaurant space in One Federal. May go see the movie again this year but hit up Shu Shop (highly recommend).

I saw it in a theater a few years ago and it was great. I had already seen it around a dozen times so I was very familiar with it but you forget how funny it is until you see it with a crowd.

They haven't.

Glad to see someone else mention this. I guess I'm deaf or something from concerts and blasting headphones, but I can't stand watching movies there because of the sound. No one else I know has mentioned it.

I was in the balcony like 5-8 rows from the back for Xmas Vacation this year. Noticed it a little but heard the movie fine. Organ player’s mike wasn’t right but I’ve heard he’s spiel a dozen times or so at this point.

The sound is pretty terrible for concerts as well, so I guess it's to be expected.

Though I've sat in the lower level for a movie there and the sound was fine.

I don't go see films there for the quality of the sound...For me it is more for the nostalgia...not to mention it is a super cheap date

Skip the balcony if you can. We've taken the kids to Christmas movies a few times. Most anywhere downstairs the sound is fine.

$8/ticket. I'd love to go to the Pizitz Food Hall prior, but I imagine the crowd will be horrific. Actually, I was surprised the tickets weren't sold out.

Disappointing to hear the sound there is bad. I've never been and have been looking for an excuse. I'd like to find a reason to go to the Lyric as well.

Friend bought concert tickets for him and myself last year, dolt ended up buying one end seat and one wheelchair space. Staff was nice and allowed us to swap our tickets free of charge. Ended up with better seats.

We sat on the lower level towards the front and everything was great. I was concerned about the sounds, but it was good.

We ate at Fero across the street and walked to the theater. My wife and I find it amazing that we can do all of this in downtown Birmingham. As lifelong residents, it's something we couldn't have imagined as recently as 10 years ago.

I still get the feels when they do the dueling anthems in the bar. Great movie.
