Any of the resident Bosch fans finish this yet? We finally did so last night, and I thought it was a decent season and finale, but it was not up to par with the greatness of the first 6. Much of the supporting cast (recurring cast excluded) were just outright bad actors, and there were a few instances of lazy writing. They also forced some SJW stuff into it that seemed out of place for what the show's standards have been to this point.

Overall though it was a satisfying season and finale. It definitely has me pumped for the spinoff that's coming.

Honestly, I found the whole season pretty boring. It felt like there was never any huge underlying story that was driving Bosch this season, and the B story with LT wasn't all that interesting. Felt more like they were just setting things up for the next series than anything else.

After this many seasons, there was little to no closure with most of the main characters in the show. With the way he left in a huff on the street, we literally never saw anyone from the station again. Would have been nice to wrap those relationships up before moving on his his Private Detective gig.

I feel the same way for the most part, but I never found it boring. It felt forced and as if they were rehashing shocking moments from past episodes. I suffered from people close to Bosch getting shot fatigue

This was a big issue. I chalked it up to they will address it in the new series, but as a closing to this one it was a bit of a whiff.

we've considered starting this series once we finish up The Crown (what a slog).

We love Luther, Marcella, Mare of East Town...etc. Pretty much any detective-based show where the cop is fighting inner demons is a show worth watching to us. I haven't looking into Bosch much but have heard good things. Is it a similar type of show to those that I mentioned? Worth starting up?

I feel like they were slowly doing that as Maddie was more involved, then really pushed forward with this in 7.

I agree, I think it was a let down (compared to the excellence of the first 6 seasons) and the primary purpose for putting out 7 was to wrap up a few things and set-up the spinoff (which I am excited to see). I also expect them to wrap up a few things in the next show with random interactions of the Edgar/Jimmy new partnership and Vega/Pierce (he'll take Bosch's spot in the new dept).

The whole Billets & Irvin storylines were weird and definitely forced.

Maybe uninteresting would have been the better word. Bosch is always a slow burning, and never tons of excitement...but I just wasn't all that interested in the main story this season. So much of it seemed to go nowhere. At first it felt like there was going to be some huge issue with the business that owned the rental property because the doors were locked during the fire, then the connection to Vegas, and the FBI CI, then the corruption with the new mayor and eventually the Chief. After the father did what he did at the end, none of those things really got wrapped up at all. And I was never interested in the B story with LT and the street cops who had it in for her. And I could not stand to see Jerry sitting outside that guy's house anymore.

And this. Basically every time Jerry sat down on his couch with his back facing the cliff I expected him to get shot though the window, or I expected his daughter's boyfriend to be involved in some way with something bad because they kept telegraphing that something wasn't right with him.

My wife reads the novels and has been upset the whole time that they never introduced his half brother, who was played by Matthew McConaughey in The Lincoln Lawyer. I think in the books after he leaves the PD they work together some, plus he (Bosch) works for Money Chandler, so I assumed she was gonna make it. Hopefully whatever they do next is solid. Love Welliver in the role and even when the story isn't as interesting as I'd like, he carries the show when he's on screen.

Absolutely. It was an easy binge for me. I would just do 2 episodes a night while winding down (~45 min each) and shot through it pretty quick.

There were a number of times where I would contemplate "just 1 more episode", but knew I couldn't afford to start that rabbit hole

Well, obviously not British, but it's very good. Titus Welliver is easily as good in his role as Idris is as Luther. Definitely worth it. Even my 18 year old son enjoyed it when he was looking for something to watch last Spring in between classes at college.

For those of us that have read many of the Connelly books -- you will find that the shows left-leaning sjw shift coincides with the Author's books.

His last 3 books have been absolutely horrific.

And the Maddie character was never, and is very much NOT an SJW character in the early books. She was die hard cop, from early on and Bosch was against her being a cop. This whole excursion into "maybe I want to be a defender" was not typical Maddie behavior.

Anyway, if you really want spoilers about the upcoming spinoff show...

Bosch spends very little time as a private investigator, joins ends up getting put back on the job and assigned to cold-case division that no one with a rising career wants to be.

I plan to read the books once I finish Wheel of Time.

Regarding the show, I always felt they avoided the SJW preaching and instead delivered the political plots with a steady, even hand. Take for instance the season with the protests. That came off as a very pro cop season while still giving some insight into the protestors. That's all I ask for in any movie or series: give me balance. Maddie never felt SJW to me.

This season the entire LT Dyke vs Alpha a-hole Males was forced and unnecessary. Since the series never, to my opinion at least, dealt a heavy hand on either side prior to this, and with Amazon forcing their equity policies onto their shows, this all felt like a case of Amazon stepping in and forcing this type of storyline to take place. It never felt right at all, and it was incredibly annoying.

I thought everyone mailed it in for the entire season. Writers and actors. The storyline with LT was ridiculously stupid.

I just finished the series as well.

I thought the final season was poorly written. Just not tight writing at all. Opened up multiple narratives, didn't flesh them out properly, abandoned them or abruptly ended them.

My favorite part of the season was actually early when J.Edgar was asked, you never watched The Wire? And he said "I binged it". Was funny.

@TS the HC storyline was part of the lazy writing to me. Let's put her in a near death coma and wake her up at the last minute for the spin-off.

Yeah that was really lazy and knowing that she is in the spinoff really took the sting out of it.

I get the Bosch creed (especially in the books) of everyone matters or no one matters but the finale at the restaurant was bonkers. They appeared ready to take down the Mexican cartel.

I haven't read the books, but have looked up cliffs to educate myself outside of the show. My perspective is definitely of the show though.

The Bosch creed is legit and narrow focus is a part of that for sure. There were so many other ancillary things they tried to drive into the season - which completely distracted from that choice. It's a slow-roll narrative that you may not agree with choices, but they always explored them prior.

I kinda feel the opposite, the last season has put me off for the spin-off. Really thought it was poorly done, it was Godfather III bad with the actress that plays Maddie putting up a Sofia Coppola performance. I would probably be more excited with a spin-off focusing on J Edgar and Jimmy in RHD.

THIS with Bosch as a PI getting involved a la the original Magnum PI where he was always up in the police departments business would be awesome.

The SJW stuff was terrible.

Where they really missed the boat was the Police vs Defense Attorneys stuff. That is real and very interesting. They could do an entire series just on that. People don't realize that cops and lawyers work together every day, fight it out in court and then often end up drinking together at the same bars. It's an interesting dynamic that they could do a ton with. Especially with Bosch as a PI working for Money Chandler but still helping out his buddies at the LAPD. THAT is a series right there.

Final season did suck. I've tried but I just don't like Jimmy. Also seemed like the final few episodes was just bringing back every character we haven't seen in a few seasons.

Iverson in Vegas
ADA from Season 1
Hippie county doctor
Redhead from season 1
Dbag captain.
FBI guy who was running strip club in Vegas.

Funny you say that. While cutting grass yesterday that scene popped up in my head and I started laughing to myself.
