It has Taskmaster so that’s cool.

The biggest question I have about this movie is why Taskmaster has claws like Black Panther? And why does he throw his shield like Cap?

I hope this is a hit to shut up everyone about women leading movies

Obviously it’s tough to know exactly what they’ll do with the character as Marvel has often subverted expectations from their comic counterparts with characters, like the Skrulls in Captain Marvel.

In the comics though, Taskmaster is extremely skilled in combat and can very quickly learn to mimic his opponents fighting techniques and use them himself. So he’s a great martial artist but also skilled in many other combat types just by fighting or even watching videos of others, like he appears to do here with Natasha. Presumably, he either fought or watched the Avengers in the past as well.

This is Marvel’s equivalent of the loaf of bread they bring you when you sit down at a restaurant.

Just to keep you in the mood for food with something good and familiar until they actually cook up the entrees.

And by that standard, it looks pretty good

Wonder Woman did very well.

This could not look more uninteresting. I guess they're banking on fans craving anything Marvel, but ScarJo's personal influence is the only thing that made this movie happen.

That's part of his "power." He can mimic the fighting style of anyone, including any weapons they use. So he often researches opponents, or those who are seen as the best, and fights exactly like they do.

He's clearly done his Avenger research in the MCU.

Taskmasters ability is he can mimic fighting styles he sees almost instantly.

My ability is to mimic posts almost instantly.

Looks good, but I'm kinda bothered that there was pretty clearly a brand new BMW in the car chase scene

Exactly.

Back when I was about 12 or 13 in the late 70s, I had the Avengers issue where Taskmaster was introduced:

He described how he had not just photographic memory, but "photographic reflexes". He learned this when he was a child watching TV shows in the 50s/60s, and could then do things immediately like lassoing as well as a TV cowboy.

When he decided to become a super-villain, he intently watched and learned the fighting techniques of numerous costumed heroes and villains (using archival television news broadcasts). He also uses similar weapons and tools they use -- a variation on Cap's shield, Daredevil's truncheon, Haweye's bow and arrow, etc.

Taskmaster's gig at the time he was originally introduced was kind of interesting though-- he wasn't keen on world domination or even stealing lots of money. He stayed "behind the scenes", his gig was training and supplying all the henchmen to other villains.

I always liked the Amazo/Super-Adaptoid villains who had the combined powers of the super-teams.

I was gonna make fun of the fact that Rachel Weisz is apparently going to be Scarlett Johansson mother in this. Then I saw that Rachel Weisz is turning 50 this year and that floored me.

I have no desire to watch a film about a secondary character. Black Widow will always be a companion to a larger character. This is all about forcing girl-power on a market that isn't there. Comparing Black Widow to Wonder Woman is like comparing a Oatmeal Cookie to Chocolate Chip cookie...Oatmeal doesn't stand a chance to the masses.

The Girl Power agenda is destroying time-honored franchises like Doctor Who, Star Trek, James Bond and Star Wars. Now they have their paws on the MCU...I can't wait to see Thor become a chick...

Also being a villain he then uses those copied abilities in dickish ways. My favorite will always be taking down Pym (in giant form) in one shot to teach the Avengers Academy kids how to not be dumb.

Yes, but this is part of the MCU, so it'll be huge. Assuming it plays in China, it'll make a billion.

If I was gonna bet against a Marvel Studios movie making a billion, it would be this one.
