Much like Game of Thrones it's initial notoriety came from a level of sex and violence you only get on premium cable, but also like GoT the story is so much deeper than tits and blood. I'm not saying it's as good as GoT but it's definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a good series to binge. It's 4 seasons long but they clearly knew the 4th was the last and tied everything up quite well. A very satisfying binge.

Good to hear. A major problem with shows these days is that they don't end well because of seasons being in limbo as to whether or not they will continue.
This was on Starz originally, correct?

Yeah, it was on Starz and Hulu is where I watched it. The way it ended you felt like you had watched something pretty deep, not just an entertaining action show. It was an examination on the motivations of man and felt like I had been watching something high brow despite all the blood and titties.

I wanted one more season because I enjoyed the show so much.

I wanted the show to continue as well even though the ending was really solid. I recommend this show all of the time.

One of my favorites. I was highly anticipating its debut, then watched the first couple episodes when it aired and thought it was kind of over the top and cheesy. Gave up after 2 or 3 episodes. Then years later I read the praise for it around here and gave it another try. Once the story got rolling, it was an amazing ride. Watched it twice already and thoroughly enjoyed it.

One of the best shows ever.

Same here. Anticipated the show when it first came out and watched the first two weeks or so and wasn’t impressed at all. Read some comments on here about it 2 years later and ended up giving it a second shot and binge watching it prior to Season 4. Glad I did. Incredible series that definitely gained steam after about 4 episodes or so. Season 2 and 3 were amazing. And Season 4 was a fitting end which is hard to find in a series now a days. It did a great job of blending some historical events and fiction. Definitely due for a rewatch. Made me want to go visit some of the historical sites and read up more on some of these characters and how they got started and how their actual fates lined up compared with the show.

I really enjoyed Black Sails. I can't remember exactly why, either wife being pregnant or kid was born, but my wife and I only made it halfway through the season that Blackbeard came (Season 3 maybe?). We need to go back and finish it for sure

The later seasons had writing on par with some of the best shows on TV. LOVED that show.

Definitely. Early on I didn't care for Vane's character but he actually ended up having a pretty deep story line. I loved Rackham too.
It was simple but the last scene was one of the best endings to a show ever too. It was perfect.
**kind of spoilers**
The gay stuff came out of no where. I was like wtf. Could have went without that.

The writing was incredible. With the exception of the first half of season 1, Black Sails is better than Game of Thrones. Unfortunately it never got the praise it deserved.
I don't think Starz promoted it enough.

I need to try this show again. I’ve watched the first two episodes three times but can’t stick to it.

*Vague Spoiler*
It's how I found out what "keelhauling" is. One of the most brutal scenes on any show or movie I've ever seen.

I knew what it was but didn’t realize that was what they were doing until midway through the scene. Also wish that character had got more air time to be a badass, but still.

Black sails was great and there was originally talk of a spin off of Long John Silver. I really wish they would go ahead with this.

One of my favorite shows ever. The characters, the writing, the story, the sets are all top notch. They didn't drag the show out too long, and after a slow start, every episode felt exciting and important. If this show had been on HBO or Netflix it would have been an Emmy darling and a mainstream hit. Easily one of the easiest shows to rewatch and enjoy.

Every season was better than the last. I love series like that

To me the best thing about the show was the character development. IMO in that aspect it's better than Game of Thrones. The arc of Long John Silver is incredible.

One thing I really enjoyed was how each naval interaction is different. They showcased the strategies and what separated the legendary captains from normal sailors.
