WTF does Black Panther have to do with black history? Are they saying that movie is factual?

I never thought I'd witness a B+ movie about a completely fictional world receive this much attention and renown.

It was a middle of the pack MCU entry. This is almost sad.

What?

Disney is just scamming black people imo.

I know it's not the poli board... but...

An independent theater in Athens GA, when Black Panther came out, had free screenings and organized it with the local school system so all the local schools had field trips to the theater to watch the movie. This went on for a month or so, until such time as all the schools had made their round.

Very liberal independent theater, as you can imagine, normally doesn't carry any kind of blockbuster stuff, mostly artsy indy stuff.

Fast forward a year, they get boycotted, led by a former employee (black) because she felt like the theater staff wasn't diverse enough, and didn't cater to local non-whites in their movie selection.

So bizarre.

You can look it all up yourself.

The theater name is Cine.

Anyway, that's it. That's all I have to say.

ETA- link for truth.

Nothing. Making BP ab out black pride is just marketing. Very effective marketing.

The heartwarming story of a hidden 23rd century level civilization that tells the rest of the world to piss up a rope and executes their citizens for having a relationship outside of their people and abandons their mixed children to a life of an orphan mired in poverty.

It’s pretty depressing that such a large chunk of the population equates Black Panther with actual black culture.

I don't care if things are made up of course, but just do it well like Coming to America and don't pretend it's not just a movie.

I mean, are we going to have a Rememberance day for Alderaan?
