Anyone watched this? I saw the preview on the fire TV home page. Looks bad but I’m probably not the target demo.

Yeah, best picture doesn't usually go to visual albums re: collections of music videos.

Clever jokes only work when said clever joke doesn't make you look dumber than the thing you're making fun of.

You really don't think a piece of art with that name exists?

But let's make sure everyone knows what this is, because no one has said anything that makes me feel like they've know anything about the title.

Beyonce released an album last year inspired by The Lion King, and it was released to coincide with that movie's release. A year later Disney and Beyonce have released this "visual album" of that previously released music. It's 85 minutes of music videos, which is not eligible for best picture or any other award outside the vmas and one Grammy. Those videos primarily feature people of color and many have visual references to various Pan-African related fashion, design, art, etc.

You can tell the media really cares about this, because it has a total 25 reviews on RT and 13 on metacritic, which means it has a total of 13 legitimate reviews. I'm sure the media will be rioting.

The videos are well-shot, but no amount of beauty makes 85 minutes of music videos pleasant to sit through.

So, being offended by the existence of music videos is stupid. Being offended that a black artist left white people out of these music videos is stupid. Being offended that a title references both the Lion King and someone's ancestry makes you stupid. Also, liking the lion King remake is stupid.

Why does a set of people here have such a problem with a pop star being popular?

My issue is the double standard . If a white pop star came out with White is King , they would be canceled no matter the actual content of the media.

With a title like that I refuse to subject myself to blatant racism. That movie should be canceled.

Nope, and if there was a way to communicate to Disney+ that that whore will never be viewed on my television, I'd do it in a second. I can't watch it less than the zero times I am right now.

I have a 3Y subscription from the D23 early bird offer, last summer, so it doesn't do any good to float a sad "just cancel your service" argument.

Cancel culture is not the way to go, anyway. I did log in and send them a Feature Request asking for a thumbs up/down ability to recommend more/less like a particular title.

I took that opportunity to use the Beyonce propaganda video as an example of something I'd give a thumbs down.

Do you ever make a post in this forum where you're not a condescending prick?

Just curious.
