The fight scenes were legit but watching it now the dialogue is cringeworthy. Really? Really.

You could say the movie is a little cheesy and hasn't aged well. But as a youngster, this film really inspired me to go around kicking people in the face if they said something I didn't like.

Billy Jack was the first oppressed minority to put "Ole Whitey" in his place!

Billy Jack was Billy Badass

That flick was huge when I was just outta college.
His wife was cringeworthy. She did not age well. Too much time in the desert.
He led a strange life and had mega financial issues. He had been around awhile before he made those movies.

They weren't using a lot of professional actors and the script was Tom and Delores' hippie, commie dreck. The improv scenes with a young Howard Hesseman were legit, though.

So true. Delores was so stiff and it seemed every line coming out her mouth was a chore to speak, and with absolutely no inflection or feeling.
I really can't watch those movies now.

I was at a bar in Houston last night to see Drivin' n Cryin' play and before the show they had the TVs on TCM.
A really cheesy 60's movie was just starting when we walked in and the sound was off. As I watched it I kept wondering what the movie was and even mentioned to my friend that it reminded my of Billy Jack. He said, no way.
We looked it up and it was Born Losers. Turns out that it was the prequel to Billy Jack.
We watched about an hour of it before DnC came on. Now I'm dying to watch it with the sound on.

The gang leader in Born Losers was William Wellman, Jr, son of the legendary director (Wings, The Ox Bow Incident)

I was about to go off on you. Dr Johnny Fever (aka Rip Tide) was oscar worthy then you mentioned the improv scenes with a young Howard Hesseman were legit.

You know what I think I’m gonna do then - just for the hell of it? I’m gonna take this right foot and I’m gonna whop you on that side of your face. And you wanna know something...there’s not a damn thing you’re gonna be able to do about it.
Oh Really?
Really!
*whop*
I wore that vhs out as a kid. I used to watch the park fight over and over. Damn good fight scene.
