According to a report by Variety, Bill Murray has been forced to drop out of Wes Anderson’s latest project because he has contracted COVID-19. The film in question is Asteroid City, which stars an ensemble group of performers such as Anderson’s frequent collaborators Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman, Edward Norton, and Willem Dafoe. Set in the 1950s, Asteroid City takes place at a Junior Stargazer convention and introduces new actors to the Wes Anderson ensemble like Tom Hanks, Margot Robbie, Bryan Cranston, and Scarlett Johansson. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Asteroid City is poised to become the most significant ensemble comedy Wes Anderson has ever produced, with costar Fisher Stevens liking it to the 1957 film Bridge on the River Kwai.

Covid's not too bad, but Murray's at that age that I am genuinely concerned for his health. He's over 70 now.

That said I'm sure he can get whatever medical care he wants.

They can't postpone it for the 2-3 days max it takes to recover? That makes no sense at all.

there's more to it than that ... BM has some leg issues related to getting Covid early on. So has felt the brunt of it for sure.

It is possible his scenes were with someone like Tom Hanks, who probably was locked into his dates. And they simply couldn't move it.

But I suspect it's fall out from the alleged incident on the Aziz movie

He doesn't have covid now, this happened last September. They were filming in Spain so that probably played a part too..

I know nothing at making movies, but wouldn't it take at least as long to get a replacement? Especially for someone who carries the weight of a Bill Murray.

good point ... especially if they were shooting in Spain. Not like in L.A. or NY where you might be able to fill a role quickly. Excuse the name drop, but i did see BM at a party that November ... still funny, but you could tell he was hurting from a leg issue. I was told later it was Covid related.

I suspect this is all tied into the harassment complaint against Bill Murray that shut down Aziz Ansari’s movie. The COVID is just an excuse.

The Wes movie was last September .... the Aziz issue
was a few months ago. So maybe it was the bad case of Covid he got.

it's not though .... unless they are lying and he was actually cut out of the final edit, which i highly doubt.

as i said the Wes movie was last fall (i saw him in Nov. and he was recovering from an illness).

The Aziz film incident was a few months ago here in L.A.

I guess they sat on the French dispatch for a long time due to Covid but it still feels weird we’re already getting another Wes Anderson movie so soon.

Obviously I am down.

The price tag for that cast must be out of this world
