Going through season 5 of Sunny on Hulu is what inspired this post. And so obviously it gets my nod. What an absolute tour de force.

Agreed. If sketch comedy counts, then that's likely the right answer, and it wouldn't even matter if you chose S1 or S2.
Others in contention IMO:
S2 or S3 of Community also came to my mind.
S2 of Arrested Development.
S1 of Silicon Valley was pretty amazing.
if Freaks and Geeks counts as a comedy, then that could also be #1.
Special shoutout to Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23. I may be the only person who watched that show, but I loved it.

I’m going to tell you that they better go nuts on the Covid season, like national headlines levels of triggering. I’d keep it focused mostly on the early days of the Coronavirus and make it the final season. Here’d be my season (extra 5 episodes for the final season):
“Frank’s Factories Have Coronavirus”
“The Gang Gets Carnivaled”
“The Gang Takes on Costco”
“The Gang Open a Daycare”

Us Sunny fans shouldn't fight amongst ourselves, so I will say in the most respectful manner possible that Season 5 is comfortably better than Season 4.
