Chick hasn’t ever seen a Mel brooks movie. I told her she has to watch one and I’m not sure which one is recommend. So tough.

Blazing Saddles - quintessential Mel brooks movie
Young Frankenstein - probably the most consistently funny in my opinion
Robin Hood Men In Tights - bit more contemporary but still fricking funny
History of the World Part 1 : that inquisition song and dance number

You forgot Silent Movie, High Anxiety, Space Balls, The Producers, and Dracula: Dead and Loving It.

The top 3 must watches, though:

Blazing Saddles

Young Frankenstein

History of the World Pt.1
...

In that order.

Tough call, but I would probably go with History of the World Pt 1 or Blazing Saddles.

I’m one of the few people that alive Dracula Dead and Loving It but it’s not quite a classic like the others.

High anxiety is good but it isn’t quite like his bothers. If I remember correctly, it’s a bit more of a straight movie.

Space Balls is fine but not a favorite.

Not a huge fan of the producers.

Never saw Silent Movie

First time I saw History of the World as a kid, I thought it was the funniest movie I'd ever seen, so I'll go with that.

They're all good. But maybe the History of the World just has so much material it just puts it over the top of the others.

Blazing Saddles is the most culturally relevant, but Spaceballs is my favorite.

Blazing Saddles
HotW
Young Frankenstein

But 1 & 2 could easily and arguably be reversed. Excellent taste tho,

“Life Stinks” is my favorite Mel Brooks movie.

******Spoilers*****

A trivia like situation, the Coen Brothers kind of stole the scene in “Life Stinks” from Mel Brooks when the homeless guy dumped the cremated ashes from his dead buddy on himself accidentally. It can’t be a coincidence that Walter accidentally got Donny’s cremated ashes on The Dude. It’s crippling that I can’t post the two scenes from both movies from YouTube.

ETA: Forgot some of y’all probably haven’t seen Life Stinks. You might want to but nobody will read this entire post.

You're leaving out The Producers?

Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein are pretty close to 1a and 1b for me, but if I had to order them, those are 1 and 2 (in that order), with The Producers #3 (and HotW a very close #4).

Blazing Saddles is his best IMO. Spaceballs is probably his most successful though...I'd probably start there if she is familiar with Star Wars.

I liked "Life Stinks" but in my eyes it pales when compared to "Blazing Saddles" and "Young Frankenstein".

And yeah, dumping Sailor's ashes was a funny scene and I loved the line "He don't have long, his 11's are up."

Back when the E Channel was Movietime (when it launched it just played movie trailers - on a loop) they played the trailer for Life Stinks non-stop. Pre-internet, so I'd put it on in the morning as background noise in case a new trailer was running.

I would probably swap #2 and #4 but it's really all down to personal taste once you get beyond the awesome greatness of Blazing Saddles.

Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein.

If you only get one shot, shoot the best.

Space Balls
History of the World Pt.1

IMO Blazing Saddles does not hold up.
