My electric co-op is going to start providing internet service. Makes sense. Lot's of people (like me) can't get high speed, cable internet. Spectrum refuses to come off the main road into my neighborhood, because there is only 10 houses. Now the co-op is going to cut into their subscribers and take away a lot of the local market share. The co-op stated the reason for their newest venture, is the underserved customers that can't get high-speed interned. Spectrum fricked up now.

Sadly, the new breeds of cable will eventually cost just as much as the old/current ones. And we can all get ready for internet prices to fricking soar.

Eventually it will circle back to a system just like current cable. Cutting the cord, you're paying internet cost plus individual monthly subscriptions for services. Eventually they will all go back to negotiating with carriers to have channels and On Demand for consumers to go with one bill.

I live in a very rural area and had to get a service called ubifi. It generally sucks but does well enough to stream. Our power company sent out a survey a few months ago asking if we would sign up for high speed internet if they offered it, so apparently theres a way to run it through power cables?

They will figure out something. My in laws live in Nacogdoches TX and they can only get satellite internet but it's way over priced so they don't bother.
