To be fair, the search function sucks.

(Billy Dee Williams as Harvey Dent. Anyone remember that?)

This is a poor example. He wasn't anything more than a cameo appearance in that movie, they didn't think they'd be getting multiple movies out of it, and they replaced him with a white man the minute they turned the character into Two-Face.

Actually he was under contract for Returns and Forever and got paid out of both of them.

(Walker’s Schreck character from Returns was originally Dent.)

That was never in question. They knew before the first ticket was sold that they would be activating the contract extensions.

Fun little video that just got dropped by a black comic book critic...Just Some Guy.

The Death of Gingers

Looks like a pattern.

So did this guy:

But he only got paid for Returns. He was cut out of Forever as well.

Are you sure this is true about the 1989 movie? I tried to find something online supporting your statement, but cannot. In fact, just looking at the casts from the first movie to the second movie says they kept...very few people from the first movie to the second. Outside of Michael Keaton, it looks like only Commissioner Gordon and Alfred came back, but those two played those roles all the way through Batman & Robin. They even had to convince Tim Burton to come back.

You are seriously the first person I've ever heard or seen make this claim so I would love to see where you're getting that.

I knew about that one. What a terrible Robin that would have been. Total disgrace to Dick Grayson as a character. Not that they did much better with Chris O'Donnell. I'm convinced Hollywood simply doesn't understand that character. I wish they'd prove otherwise.

ETA: That was a contract from Tim Burton though and they removed him from Forever when they got rid of Tim Burton.

I can confirm that it is indeed a fact. The original plan was for Lando to play Dent in multiple films.

It's ridiculous how often this happens. It's like they intentionally seek out redheads to race swap.

Well. Thank goodness that didn't happen.

The first movie had $750 Million in merchandise sales. They might not have given Sam Hamm the go ahead on the sequel script before the movie premiered, but there's no way that anyone was in doubt that they were going to turn it into a franchise.

All the plans they had for the Burtonverse series were thrown out the window when Burton became reluctant to sign on for the sequels.

Batman II was originally scheduled for release in 1991. They had a script ready and sets constructed, but Burton refused to sign on. To finally appease Burton, WB gave him carte blanche and they did a rapid, last minute re-write for Batman II, which became Batman Returns.

(Sam Hamm wrote the original Batman II script. But Burton wanted the Waters guy, who wrote Heathers (1988), to write the new script.)

Out went Harvey Dent as the ruthless tycoon, who Catwoman was supposed to be scar in the electrical explosion at the end, turning him into Two Face.

Right, but this was definitely in doubt beforehand. They gave Jack Nicholson a percentage of merchandise sales in exchange for a lower dollar contract. There's no way they would have done that if they thought it was going to be such a success.

They are really wringing the hell out of the Batman related movies. This will be the nineteenth.

And it's very obvious because there aren't that many of them.

I 100% knew she wouldn't be white.

This, tbh. I guess it’s not a big deal since it’s fricking Batgirl (plus, the actress is fine as hell), but why? Barbara Gordon’s defining characteristic is being a hot, white redhead in a wheelchair.

Also, no SJWs give enough of a frick about Batgirl to make it worth pandering like this. Good for her, I suppose. She’ll do fine.
