Some of the stories were more enjoyable than others.
Overall, it is a solid movie.

I'm going to have to watch it again. Especially the one with the Wagon Train.

Yea I don’t think I liked it nearly as much as some on here. It was decent overall. I enjoyed the prospector and the serial killer ones the most.

I mean it wasn’t that crazy pretty straight forward old western tales with some dark themes.
If that fricks your mind up then go watch Sorry to Bother you and you’ll go insane literally

As I said in one of the other three Buster Scruggs threads...
If you had told me that the Coens were doing an anthology in the vein of O. Henry/EC Comics/Weird Western Tales/Twilight Zone I'd think that it would be the best thing ever. But after the Scruggs vignette the segments dragged on and on. The limbless orator chapter was mesmerizing but the ending could've been shot and edited to be a lot funnier.
I'll give it some time before attempting another watch.

No one takes their job more seriously than you do as the thread police

i watched it through for the first time last night. during the watch, i cant say i was riveted. but, i've been thinking about the stories since then, which in many ways is sign of good art
i'm gonna let it marinate and then watch again. the oregon wagon train story in particular was well constructed with several layers of interest

Hated it. Just didn’t like a bunch of short stories.

You thought Mortal Remains (the actual name) was about serial killers?

I thought it was over after buster died and floated to heaven.... turned it off

I guess you could see it as a story of death taking the passengers across the divide. That ties up the theme of the movie. But given the vingnette nature of the rest of the movie I took it at face value over allegory.
I rewatched that to make sure I’m not crazy. He’s asked “so you will take them alive” and answers “oh I wouldn’t say that”. He kills every bounty.
“Clarence does the thumping while their attention is on me.” He takes the bounties alive.
Then he goes into the creepy speal about watching them die. And everyone is freaked out. He captures bounties and kills them, getting pleasure out of it. He’s a clever serial killer who has found a legal way to kill.
The other speeches were good, but I thought this was the main topic.
Rewatching this and thinking more on it from this thread is giving me greater appreciation for the movie, if you have other insights I’m interested.
I took it literally on the first watch. On rewatch, I thought that the coachman was death taking them to the next realms. The Frenchman, Old Lady, and Trapper don't know they were dead yet. It's only when they stop at the inn that it starts to hit them and they're afraid to get off and find out what's on the other side of the door.
The Coachman never stops. It's against the rules.
