re: Atlanta Season 2 Thread
Someone on r/AtlantaTV made the connection between the opening scene & Gambino's Camp Album.

quote:

In the beginning of the episode "Alligator Man", two men shoot up a Mrs. Winner's in Atlanta. The first time I watched this episode, I didn't notice much, but on my second watch, I realized that this could very much be a reference to one of my favorite songs from Donald Glover, "Outside". The song states, "Mama worked at Mrs. Winner's Gun pulled in her face She still made dinner". I don't know if this was intentional or not, but there definitely was a gun pulled in the face of a Mrs. Winner's employee.

Katt Williams Interned At an Alligator Farm

quote:

You're the Alligator Man in the first episode of Atlanta Robbin' Season. How did you end up on the show? I'm a music fan and I'm a comedy fan. [Donald's] name carries that type of weight in both of those circles. So any project that he's a part of, you want to be a part of as well. He had some thoughts on season two, where he wanted to take it, and how he wanted to put things out there. You can put yourself into somebody's hand when you can trust their objective.

The first two times I auditioned, I wasn't good enough and other people were better. I just kept at it, and then I interned at an alligator farm for three-and-a-half weeks, just so I could get comfortable enough that we didn't use a stuntman. I really adopted the alligator into my home. And became so comfortable with it that it was like working with another co-star.

A good first episode. After reading that New Yorker interview where Glover comes off more arrogant than Kanye West, I was wondering how the second season would start off. If he would start rejecting ideas of the first season and go in a completely different direction. Fortunately, it picked right off from season 1.

In that screenshot.. the African looking head with the blue outline... is his album cover for “ Awaken my love “ that wasn’t yet released at the time .

I knew there must've been a reason I didn't notice it during the original airing. It's right in the middle of the damn screen so I definitely caught it during my rewatch last week

Apparently the show was making fun of a woman that Katt actually kidnapped. But because he paid her off, the lawsuit she filed got dismissed.

Am I the only one who finds the worst character on the show to be the one played by Donald Glover?

i thoroughly disagree. i think hes a very nuanced character and donald glover plays him perfectly. so well that he never explicitly stated that his fear in life was being a smart guy who always thought he was better than everyone else but just couldnt get ahead and was terrified of letting everything go to waste until this past episode and we always understood that from the first minute of the pilot based solely on donald glovers performance

if i had to choose who the weakest character on the show is, id go with darius. but thats only because earn, alfred, and van have been given episodes to themselves to fill in their characters motivations and relationships. its a testament to how strong a show atlanta is when a character like darius on a weaker show would drag it down but lakeith stanfield is terrific and completely steals the show with darius whenever given the chance
