The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and editor Kevin Riley are threatening the producers and filmmakers of Clint Eastwood’s “Richard Jewell” over its accusations of “malicious fabrications” in the film, according to a legal demand sent Monday that was obtained by TheWrap.

The letter from the law offices of Lavely & Singer accused the filmmakers as acting “recklessly” and “engaging in constitutional malice” due to the film’s portrayal of the newspaper and AJC reporter Kathy Scruggs (as played by Olivia Wilde). The paper demands that the filmmakers issue a public statement that acknowledges they took dramatic and artistic licenses with the story, and that a prominent disclaimer is added to the film.

“We’re simply asking that the producers issue a statement acknowledging that some events were imagined for dramatic purposes, and that artistic license and dramatization were used in the film’s portrayal of events and characters,” Riley said in a statement to TheWrap. “In addition, we’re requesting a disclaimer to that effect be added to the film’s credits.”

Hopefully they just pay the lawsuit and forego the after-credits text the AJC wants added onto the film. Also...I find it funny that they want them to do this when they are literally four days away from release. The prints have already been shipped to the theaters.

I hope Clint tells the paper to suck his dick.

Maybe they shouldn’t have fricked the whole thing up to begin with.

I would love for Richard Jewell's estate to counter-sue.

Maybe they shouldn't have lied and ruined a man's life.

Ah, the irony.

This is Eastwood's final FU to the liberal media (and FBI) who flat out ruined Jewell's name basically because he fit a stereotype

I believe after he died they finally ruled that the AJC was not liable and the case was dismissed. AJC fought it for years.

Two things I can tell you about Kathy Scruggs, a judge sent her to jail for not revealing her source on the story. And she died of a drug overdose, about 20 years ago.

Pretty sure they're just upset that they showed the reporter sleeping with a source for information. Not that they totally screwed the pooch on the entire thing.

What's the difference between a whore and a reporter?

One fricks you BEFORE leaving, the other continuously fricks you AFTER leaving.

Kind of like their coverage of Jewell when all this happened?

Did she ever reveal or can we assume she made that shite up?

Ah

And then started abusing drugs to numb her pain from ruining a man's life and it killed her.

Good riddance.

What was possibly made up? I'm not well versed on this, b/c it was so long ago and I haven't thought about it in years. I'm sure the media sensationalized stuff but wasn't Jewell actually being looked at by the FBI? I thought the AJC won the lawsuit ultimately bc the info they reported was deemed to be accurate at the time it was reported. Of course, I could be wrong about this.
