re: Arrested Development Season 5 Thread
Funny thing about Jeffrey Tambor...

I have been doing a rewatch of "Entourage". During the story arc where Ari was worried about getting sued for abuse in the workplace, Jeffrey Tambor shows up and has a short conversation with Ari. It goes something like:

Ari: What scandal have you been involved with? There was that little incident on "Arrested Development."

Tambor: If you haven't heard about it, there's no reason to hear about it.

Ive only watched two episodes, as well, and I agree. It feels weak so far. I’m hoping it improves.

I thought the first 3 episodes were pretty awful. Episode 4 is excellent and 5-8 are really good. Really hope that the final 8 episodes carry that momentum.

And I'll be giving it a rewatch between now and the final 8 episodes. Really disliked S4 after the first time seeing it, then liked it a lot more on 2nd viewing. That may very well happen with this half-season.

I loved season 4. A bit tedious for binge viewing and missed the old format but it was really funny and insanely creative

I’m on episode 8. Season 5 is awful

The Howard bbq episode was the best of the whole half season.

Everything about it just felt like season 1-3.

Was not crazy about season 5 the first time through. However I said the same thing about season 4 and liked it more than second time through

I’m up to episode 5, and I’m still not very impressed. The writing just doesn’t work for me this time. Doesn’t seem nearly as witty or well put together.

GOB, george sr, and Tobias are all cringeworthy.

I like the season so far. I'm not an overdramatic bitch though...

GOB looked to put some pounds on and I agree wasn't all that great, and George sr. has never been really one of the funnier characters, but Tobias is as good as ever. Practically every scene he's in is great IMO.

re: Arrested Development Season 5 Thread
I have fewer complaints with Tobias, but some of the bits felt a little forced.

My biggest complaint overall is that this season seemed to rely waaay too much on callbacks. I know the humor has always been self referential but none of the new stuff felt strong so it makes the callbacks feel a little stale.

I still haven’t finished so I hold out hope for the last three.

Yeah,

This show is back to form.

It's a cornball that gains momentum each episode.

I've been meaning to brush back up on the first half of S5, what a perfect opportunity to do so. I know what I'm doing this weekend.

Hell, tonight probably.

re: Arrested Development Season 5 Thread
I finally watched the first couple episodes of S5 and I thought they were really solid. I'm not sure why I always differ so much from the majority of this board with this show. But I thought it was well-put-together and was cracking up out loud a few times.

Not sure why so many of you seem to hate it so much. What are the reasons? (and I have not read the entire thread to avoid episode discussion/spoilers)

re: Arrested Development Season 5 Thread
I think you and I have generally been on the same page about it.

Can't remember if it was earlier ITT or another one from a ways back but I very much didn't care for the origianl S4 but loved the remix. I can't speak for everyone, but I imagine most people dislike "new" AD because it's just not the same. The humor and writing feels very much the same but the characters are different and it's just not the same show we grew to love during S1-3. With that said, I enjoy 4 and 5 and am very excited for the continuation.

Agreed. I also thought Season 4 was really solid post remix. It's not on the same level as the first 3 seasons, but still has a great plot and is incredibly entertaining. The big thing that seemed off about the Netflix seasons is the pacing. It just feels...off. In Season 4, much of that was due to their attempts at doing self-contained narratives for each character, which required way too much narrator explanation. This problem was partially cured by the remix.

I was really enjoying where Season 5 was going, so I can't wait to see how it ends.
