I watched Deep Impact the other day on Cinemax. It's such a better movie, imo, but doesn't get the love like Armageddon

Movie is awesome. It’s what summer movies should all strive to be. Rewatchable as anything.

And downvote all you want, but the President’s speech in this shits all over Lone Starr’s lame arse cheesy shite in Independence Day

quote:

I address you tonight not as the President of the United States, not as the leader of a country, but as a citizen of humanity.

We are faced with the very gravest of challenges. The Bible calls this day "Armageddon"; the end of all things.

And yet, for the first time in the history of the planet, a species has the technology to prevent its own extinction. All of you praying with us need to know that everything that can be done to prevent this disaster is being called into service.

The human thirst for excellence, knowledge, every step up the ladder of science, every adventurous reach into space, all of our combined modern technologies and imaginations, even the wars that we've fought, have provided us the tools to wage this terrible battle.

Through all the chaos that is our history, through all of the wrongs and the discord, through all of the pain and suffering, through all of our times, there is one thing that has nourished our souls, and elevated our species above its origins, and that is our courage. The dreams of an entire planet are focused tonight on those fourteen brave souls traveling into the heavens.

May we all, citizens the world over, see these events through. Godspeed, and good luck to you.

I'm going to share something that I found interesting. The same guy that played the President in Armageddon (Stanley Anderson), played the President in The Rock. Both films were directed by Bay, which could technically mean a shared universe between the two films.

This is the most tired shite in the world.

They weren't astronauts. They were passengers on a spaceship to go drill. It's much easier that way.

Agree. Much more emotional impact in deep impact, which I guess is the point. The title is referencing more than the comet's impact. Some good acting performances as well.

However, its not loved because its not a popcorn flick, doesn't have the action scenes and doesn't have that "fun" factor.

Another big issue with Deep Impact is how relatively behaved everyone is being. That interstate scene should have chaos and violence - Elijah actually leaves the motorbike to go hug the girl. That thing would have been gone before he even got to her.

To be fair Harry had a relationship with AJ's father and promised to take care of him too. I believe that was stated while Harry was trying to shoot him in the beginning of the movie
