They made fun, epic, explosions, popcorn flicks, it’s on Netflix.
NASA, no more shuttles so this is ancient history.
The baws said they would do the job, if they never had to pay taxes ever again, awesomeness.
ETA. I didn’t know JJ Abrams was involved that long ago.

They never explained why it was easier to train those losers as astronauts was easier than train engineeer/astronauts to run a drill

Michael Bay's response to Ben Affleck asking this question: "Shut the frick up"

I still dig that movie and I still can't watch the end when Harry has to tell his daughter that he's breaking his promise without crying like a baby. Father daughter thing I guess.

I mean really, there wasn’t much astronaut shite they had to do besides wear a suit. All of the mechanics of the ship were done by the actual astronauts.
I guess there’s a lot of nuances to drilling? Not to mention the movie would have been boring as shite without the lovable losers in it.

This.
They were along for the ride. The astronauts did the piloting, landing, takeoff and reentry (and fixed the broken shuttle w/ Russian assistance [with parts made in Taiwan]).
The drillers drilled.

Actually they did explain it. Maybe you just didn’t like the explanation.

I don't mean to be the materialistic weasel of this group
And I swear to god she never told me her age.

B/c they had the flow system all reversed, Mr. Wizard. They kept chewing up rotors and couldn't figure out why.

it is a cheesy flick that I will typically watch if it on. It holds a special place in my formative years because of a very adventurous girlfriend and I went to see this when I was 15.

I was always partial to when Harry refuses to let AJ take his place and confessing how much AJ means to him

The greatest, most heroic effort by a supporting cast (and high dollar action star) to save a terrible movie from it's terrible director, screenwriter and romantic leads. Probably the most A-grade performances for a movie this bad you're ever likely to see.
Although, a close second is Titanic.

Yeah- I've been telling my girls ever since, "Girls - just know that if I'm in that same situation, I'M coming back. That's a fricking boyfriend - not a husband, not the father of your children - A BOYFRIEND. So, I'm coming back - I'm your only father. You can always get another boyfriend."
Truth.
