I guess it’s because of when they all released, but I love my yearly rewatch of the Extended Editions every December.

Being an excited young teen when they all came out those 3 Christmas seasons was something I’ll never forget, I saw each about 3-4 times in the theater.

Jackson captured full on magic for all 3 movies, I don’t think it will ever be replicated. IMO some of the best sequences ever made.

Balin’s tomb fight, Helm’s Deep, Shelob’s lair, the Seige of Gondor, Nazgul swooping down and dropping guys 1000 feet to their death, the charge of the Rohirrim, and then their charge again against the Haradrim are just unbelievable.

Santa's going to update my DVDs to Bluray this year. In fact, I may get him to bring me some History of Middle-Earth books. I've been in a big Tolkien mood lately.

Very well done. One of the best pages in the book as well.

I watch them just about every month because they play on cable all the time.

What's most amazing is that those Lord of the Ring movies visually look better than the much newer Hobbit movies.

I now watch with my tablet in my lap and google shite I am curious about since I did not read any of it. Love doing it. I generally allow it to run a while so I can FF through all the Frodo/Sam scenes which I do not find interesting.

The 2-3 minute sequence when the Rohirrim first hit the line of Haradrim and it’s just the sound of battle might be the coolest action sequence for me in movie history. Crank up your surround sound to the max

not as often as they used to. Now it’s just hobbit marathons. I think there’s been 1 LoTR marathon in the last year. Always looking for them

Used to like Clockwork when me and my brothers were younger and actually were consistently around each other over the holidays.

Truly three of the greatest films ever put together with some of the greatest original soundtracks of all time in cinematic history.

Battle of the Pelenor Fields gives me a stiffy every time.

Reading this thread got me searching for a 4k edition to upgrade from my standard DVD set.

Looks like 4k is set to be released Summer 2020... ahh now have to wait

I almost made a thread the other day about "non-Christmas, Christmas movies" and it was all because of LOTR.

There's just something about the films that are far far better to be rewatched during the holiday season.

Some of my fondest movie theater memories are going to watch these films with my family and friends around Christmas every year from 2001-03.

Two Towers in the theater is way, way, way up there. It was like watching magic on the screen.

Two parts will make me shed gigantic tears

1. When the eagles rescue Frodo and Sam off of Mount Doom (OMG the music)

2. When Sam reveals he is leaving with Bilbo for Aman
