After the streaming giant's original series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel won two Golden Globes on Sunday — for best musical or comedy TV series and best actress for star Rachel Brosnahan — Amazon announced on Thursday that the Amy Sherman-Palladino series will be available to view for free this weekend for all audiences.

“Big kudos and congrats to Rachel for her first Golden Globe and to Amy for an outstanding first season,” said Greg Hart, vice president of Prime video. “We are excited for new viewers to join in the celebration and stream the series for free this weekend.”

The series, based in 1958 New York City, follows Miriam “Midge" Maisel (House of Cards’ Brosnahan) as she transitions from a typical 1950s housewife and mother who discovers her calling as a stand-up comic. The quirky series was created, executive produced, written and directed by Sherman-Palladino and husband Daniel. Sherman-Palladino, who created Gilmore Girls, was most recently nominated for a Directors Guild of America Award.

...The series will be available to stream at no cost beginning Friday, Jan. 12, at 12:01 a.m. local time through Monday, Jan. 15, 11:59 p.m. Audiences can stream the series through the Prime Video app for television, connected devices or online at Amazon.com/Maisel.

I thought the same thing. I haven't seen it yet, but two of my buddies that have very different taste both said it was great. So, I will be giving it a shot now.

Sounds similar to Punchline, the Sally Fields and Tom Hanks movie.

it's pretty damn great. and rachel brosnahan's performance is maybe the best i've seen all year in tv or movies. She's that good.

it's funny, and it's pretty dirty too. it plays up the jewish stereotypes a bit much at times, but that's pretty much my only criticism. it's a fun and enjoyable show with a goddamn fantastic performance from brosnahan. highly recommend.

Can’t wait until the Trads take over and we get TV series about annoying bitchy career women who turn into happy housewives with big families.

Something about the title and the subject matter made me not want to watch it, but the lead actress is amazing, and I'm glad I gave it a try.

I think some people assume this is over the top SJW feminist stuff because it won at the Golden Globes which became the #metoo awards and it isn’t like that at all.

While there is a strong female lead that fights against traditional roles, it’s really a New York Jewish family dramedy that focuses on the world of stand up comedy.

She's great and so are her parents. I've never been a huge fan of Tony Shaloub but I think he's fantastic in this. Really the entire cast is really good.

I didn't think I would like it at all but I watched the whole season over the last 2 days.

SO was watching it but I wasn’t interested until I saw Michael Zegen (Bugsy Siegel from Boardwalk Empire) was in it and really enjoyed it so far

Alex Bornstein (Lois from Family Guy) and Tony Shaloub (Monk) are good as well
