From Variety

quote:

“Alone,” the History Channel survival series, is expanding with two spinoff series set to premiere next month.

Titled “Alone: The Skills Challenge” and “Alone: Frozen,” the spinoffs will follow in the original show’s premise of dropping challengers into the wilderness as they attempt to survive on their own the longest, with new twists to the formula as well as return appearances from past contestants.

quote:

“The Skills Challenge,” which premieres Aug. 4, focuses on three former “Alone” participants as they compete in build challenges, devised by another former participant, to develop shelter in the wilderness. Returning contestants from the original show include Callie North (Season 3), Lucas Miller (Season 1), Amós Rodriguez (Season 7), Britt Ahart (seasons three and five), Jordan Jonas (season six), Joel Van Der Loon (season seven) and Clay Hayes (season eight). After the show’s premiere at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT, the 12 episode first season will air in its regular timeslot of Thursdays at 10 p.m ET/PT.

“Frozen,” which premieres Aug. 11 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, will see six legacy “Alone” survivalists drop into Labrador, Canada in an attempt to last fifty days in the harsh North Atlantic winter. Those who last through the competition will win a share of a $500,000 cash prize. The returning contestants for the sixth episode first season of “Frozen” are Greg Ovens (Season 3), Woniya Thibeault (Season 6), Callie Russell (Season 7), Mark D’Ambrosio (Season 7), Amós Rodriguez (Season 7) and Michelle Finn (Season 8). The History Channel will air a one-hour special “Alone: Frozen Before the Frozen” on July 28, giving and inside look into the series and reintroducing the competitors.

Both premises look good. I hope it's better than its first attempt with "Alone: Beast".

I would love to see Roland and Jordan in either of these challenges

Frozen has a stacked lineup. These are the days they all lasted previously and why they left:

Greg - 51 (hypothermia)
Woniya - 73 (starvation)
Callie - 89 (med evac for frostbite)
Mark - 44 (trichinosis infection)
Amos - 58 (starvation)
Michelle - 21 (starvation)

It looks like Jordan in in the skills challenge.

Jose (S2) and Carleigh are two of the stronger competitors I'd love to see come back at some point.

Roland would shank a polar bear and live like a king.

Rock House could use a nice pelt on the floor to tie the room together

I'm not familiar with Amos Rodriguez but that dude must love being alone in the woods. He's doing both of these shows and i doubt they are filmed that far apart from each other.

Someone help me understand the concept for the first season mentioned. Are they just building shelters to see who has the best?

I don't know, this sounds like Survivor meets Guy's Grocery Games.

Not a fan of turning this show into a cast member palooza.

What makes the show is different people from different walks of life every season.

I think the reason for the 50 day limit for Frozen is because they want at least 1 of the women to make it to the "end". That way the show can say a woman has won. I'd rather they had a separate show only for women and see who lasts the longest.

I highly doubt that, a number of chicks have made it a very long time there and have been some of the better competitors on the show.

There is something to be said for an original cast of a unique series like this.

Most everyone involved in successive seasons have studied previous contestants' strategies and familiarized themselves with their own optimal path to victory. Those in the first couple of seasons didn't really have that huge advantage, and I think it comes across as "better" because they do more random and unexpected things.

I personally loved this show but gave it up at some point, only because it got so repetitive. Maybe these twists will make it seem fresh again.

Yea Beast was terrible. The skills challenge doesnt sound quite as good, but frozen sounds awesome.

Callie Russell

Probably the two most bad arse girls to be on the show. I really liked both of them.

Britt Ahart (seasons three and five)

Ok time to retire him.

Alan Kay is still the goat, but I’ll definitely be tuning in.
