Martin is big enough to where money won't motivate him, or pressure from fans or anything. Ultimately, that's probably a good thing, because he's going to tell HIS story and not what WE want or what his publisher wants. It's a great thing to be an author with the ability to say, "no" to everyone else's "great" ideas.
I have to respectfully disagree. The worst thing that can happen to an author or director or really any creative person is to be above the editor. It's almost a given that an author's work suffers when they become so famous and well loved that no editor or publisher will say so much as ,"Boo." to them. Their work suffers and becomes less focused.
Not exactly in the same purview but look it what happened to M Night Shyamalan. Once he was given carte blanche his movies went downhill quickly.

Judging from the way he posts seems like the type of person I'd be nervously uncomfortable to be in a room with. There's a rather unhinged quality to them. Reminds me of Brad Pitts character in 12 monkeys.

Excellent!
Has anyone read the preview at the Barnes & Nobles website yet? Tyrion's POV. Good stuff.

Ray, you're just being a douche at this point.

It is good but that sample chapter has been available for years.

Yes, GRRM rotated it with other chapters on his website.

Both are leading to the climactic 6th book.

there's been 7 planned for awhile now.
Video from GRRM's editor w/ the manuscript. It's HUGE

Just finished Joffs wedding in Swords. That and the Freys in the previous wedding.

Rothfuss is very good. I love Kvothe as a character. What an insufferable arse, but he has the best of intentions. I just finished Wise Man's Fear a month or so ago. I think Books A Million still has the hardback at 40% off.
Thanks for the Name of the Wind recommendation. I picked it up this weekend and I am completely hooked. I am about half way through, at the part where he gets his silver pipes for playing his lute at the place across the river. I am enjoying Kvothe's character a great deal.

Weddings are extremely dangerous in that book.

But it was legitimized by King Tommen IIRC.

I don't remember that, but it is possible. I was under the impression it was up to the lord to recognize his bastard or not.

I'm glad you're liking it. Kvothe is fun to read.
