For the fourth time in its history, the Oscars are being postponed. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the ABC Television Network said Monday that the 93rd Academy Awards will now be held April 25, 2021, eight weeks later than originally planned because of the pandemic's effects on the movie industry.

The Academy's Board of Governors also decided to extend the eligibility window beyond the calendar year to Feb. 28, 2021, for feature films, and delay the opening of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures from December until April 30, 2021.

"Our hope, in extending the eligibility period and our Awards date, is to provide the flexibility filmmakers need to finish and release their films without being penalized for something beyond anyone's control," said Academy President David Rubin and Academy CEO Dawn Hudson in a joint statement.

Karey Burke, the president of ABC Entertainment, added: "We find ourselves in uncharted territory this year and will continue to work with our partners at the Academy to ensure next year's show is a safe and celebratory event."

Well, it wouldn't be the Academy Awards without taking every opportunity to virtue signal

Delaying because of the virus that has delayed or canceled almost literally every large event is "virtue signaling"? Extending an eligibility period so that they have more than 10 films to qualify for nominations is virtue signaling.

Well, it wouldn't be the TD Movie/TV Board without an idiot confidently saying something that makes no sense.

Whenever protests are allowed, and at that same time the "deadly virus" is no longer an issue...Yeah, that's virtue signaling.

That has nothing to do with the oscars delaying because half their movie slate for this year has been delayed and people still can’t fill up a movie theater

...these are being delayed because movies haven't been coming out. Has nothing to do with virtue signaling.

Yeah a buddy of mine who was working as crew on a horror movie for some big studio when everything got shut down said that crew is getting called back on July 3, and actors are set to report back on July 6

I know the award frontrunners generally arrive later on, but are we even going to have enough quality movies to get nominees?
