Adapted Screenplay

“Top Gun: Maverick”

From what? A novel? How is that even possible? TG's attraction is 75% visual.

It's gotta be adapted from another older screenplay, right? But even that seems odd as most scripts, even originals, seemingly sit in purgatory and get a zillion re-writes before ever being greenlit.

All sequels are automatically adapted screenplays. Adapted from the original screenplay.

It's a sequel thing. Glass Onion is also in adapted screenplay for an original story that features a character in a previous film.

Was hoping Babylon would get in best picture over either Women Talking, Triangle of Sadness, or All Quiet. I let myself expect RRR would be the actually come in as the foreign spectacle everyone has been able to actually see over All Quiet. RRR only getting the song nomination is a disappointment.

Triangle of Sadness (which I haven’t seen yet) got more love than I expected.

Also the Academy went with a truly under the radar selection with Andrea Riesborough in To Leslie. They went with a performance in a movie that had no buzz on year-end lists.

It was terrible.

A pointless classism allegory. Not particularly well acted. It's made so snobby critics can sniff their own farts.

re: 2023 Oscar Nominations
I'm glad to see that The Woman King got shut out but sad to see Berger got snubbed in Directing for his work on All Quiet on the Western Front. Top Gun: Maverick was robbed of a nomination for Cinematography IMHO.
