15 years later and this movie is still not funny.

Like many I watched it the first time and didn't know what the hell I had even watched. I'll watch it anytime its on and have watched it many many times.

I thought it was dumb and didn't get the appeal the first time I saw it, but as many have pointed out it got better with each rewatch, especially watching it with friends. I was a junior in high school when it was big so it was a big deal

I watched it again for the 1st time in many years. Summer's boyfriend only had a small role but his facial expressions were classic.

I also liked how everything seemed to be stuck in the 80s, except for Lafawnduh and the mix tape she gave to Napoleon.

Every time I watch it, I wonder what year it's supposed to be. Everything with Rico looks 70's, many scenes are 80's, but there's 90's stuff (and music) spread about.

It was such a weird movie, but I watch it every time it's on.

I always thought that was showing how behind the times they were. Small town Idaho going to have some characters.

Great movie. Watch it about once a year.

Three different timelines all intersecting at once. Napoleon Dynamite is sci-fi.

Napoleon's tendency to mix words together accidentally is a great subtle character trait.

He mixes decrepit and corroded into "decroded."
There's another example later I can't recall.

This is real in many isolated parts of the country, and some not so isolated. I used to live in Annandale, VA, where the 70's still had not ended by the time I left in about 2010.

Yeah, that was the odd aesthetic about it. You were wondering the entire film, when does this take place?

You immediately think the 80's and then Kip says he was talking to babes online all day and then you start thinking, maybe Idaho is just that backward.

Part of the brilliance of the movie intentional or not is this almost raw domestic tone. The characters slightly exaggerated but everyone knows a Kip, Uncle Rico , Rex, Summer Wheatley and others. Those characters are mirror images of people I knew and that gives it an almost painful realism.

Of course when I gave that speech to my wife she said I was an idiot.
