Yankee Stadium-The Cathedral of Baseball

The original Yankee Stadium, from 1923 to 1973, was the original stadium. The home of Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Berra, Mantle. The remodeled stadium, from 1976 to 2008 was where most of the legendary memories were made. From Reggie Jackson's 1977 World Series performance, the 2001 World Series, and Aaron Boone's 2003 ALCS home run.
The new Yankee Stadium, opened in 2009 is good too, but a lot of Yankee fans see the new stadium as cold, too corporate, not the place where memories are made.
Which cathedral was better?

The original Yankee stadium was most certainly not the original stadium. I can name no less than 10 stadiums off the top of my head significantly older than Yankee stadium

What I mean by original stadium, it was the original Yankee Stadium.

If Danny Tartabull was playing in new Yankee Stadium he would top 10 on some HR lists

Yankee stadium is cool but it’s no Alex Box.

I just took a trip through Baltimore, Philly, Boston and NYC the last week of June. I caught a ballgame in each town. I wrote this to a buddy of mine when comparing Fenway and Yankee Stadium...
“So after being at Fenway and Yankee stadium, here are my takeaways...
• Fenway doesn't look like much on the outside, but sitting inside that stadium just felt right. The fans were awesome and you really feel like you're a part of something. It has that intimate setting that many of the newer stadiums lack.
• Yankee Stadium is absolutely beautiful, probably the nicest stadium, in terms of appearance and construction, that I've ever seen. I mean, it only cost 2.3B to build... once you are on the inside, it feels like a corporate giant that is only there to gobble up the consumer's dollar. The place is massive, capacity of almost 50K. I felt very disconnected from the game, and I was there for the Boston game and the atmosphere was just blah.
• Yankee Stadium did have the nicest in stadium gift shop I've ever seen...but those cheap bastards didn't even offer a free refill with my souvenir cup. ????
• Fenway gave away a little gift bag for those attending their first game at the stadium. The gift bag contained a smaller bag of "Fenway dirt". The Yankees only offered up a certificate that could be printed at your local Office Depot.
Fenway is my new #1 on ballpark experiences, followed closely by Wrigley.”

original stadium with that name, yes, but not the original stadium of the Yankees. That would be the Polo Grounds when they adopted the name "the Yankees."
When they went by the Highlanders, they played at Hilltop Park
When the franchise originated in Baltimore and they went by, yes, the Orioles, they played at Oriole Park

I have the black and white photos of these fields in my office, kinda crazy that they use to play in a field this large.

Polo Grounds tGOAT. Like 425 to center. 200 on the poles. Ruth was said to bomb them out of center.

more like 485 to center, 425-440 in the power alleys, and 270 to the left and right field poles. Although you'll get different measurements depending on where you look. Safe to say, center field was DEEP

Yeah. I remember reading about it as a kid. Would have loved to see Ruth take BP there.

The new yankee stadium is still awesome
Went in 2013, had a hot dog and a beer, sat behind the visiting teams bullpen and it still felt like it oozes Americana to me

I miss the old stadium. I used to love coming up the dark hallways and walking out of the tunnel to see the bright green of the outfield. The new stadium is nice and all, but the vibe just isnt what it was.
