Saturday's Seattle Dragons-Houston Roughnecks game should not have ended as it did. Replays showed clearly that the knee of Houston quarterback P.J. Walker touched the field, rendering him "down" and the fourth-down play officially completed, with approximately two seconds remaining on the clock – effectively turning the ball over to Seattle on downs. With a nine-point differential in the score, Seattle was denied an opportunity to tie the game. The XFL sincerely regrets this error.

In addition, Wes Booker, who served as Officiating Supervisor for today’s game, has been reassigned.

As I said in the game thread, given the way the game ended in Houston m, this was exactly what they needed to do in response to the events that unfolded.

Great PR.

Damn.

What experience do the refs in the XFL have? Are some of them college refs or did they pick them from college conferences?

The crews are mostly college refs

But the reassigned official was not an on field official, it was the guy handling the supervision of those officials from the booth I believe

Dude dug his own grave with that interview right after the game, basically saying it was a bad call but it was too late bc the players and refs had left the field. Like it would’ve been difficult to call half the players back from the tunnels and tell the other half who were still on the field to get back to their sidelines

On field refs need to be dealt with as well, they took of their ear pieces and ran off the field. If they would’ve simply waited 2 seconds before heading in this could’ve been avoided

Agreed. I think the reassignment kind of serves a part of that purpose though.

That head ref is usually damn good, and is prominent in college reffing as well. I think his reputation may cover his arse a bit, although I feel it shouldn't.

Agreed. But the guy who got reassigned was the supervisor of officiating for that game and was in the booth. He had authority to get the officials and players back on the field. Might have taken a few minutes to get everybody back to the field and settled, but would not have been difficult to do so the game doesn’t end in a controversial officiating error. So the buck ultimately stops with him which is why I think he gets the reassignment and the on field refs will get a talking to

To be fair I don’t think Seattle was making much of a stink about it right afterwards either so they probably saw minimal reason to

Never in this history of time, will you ever see the NFL admit something was done wrong.

Tommylee Lewis could have been gunned down in cold blood in the 2019 NFCCG and the NFL still wouldn’t have said a word about it for 5 months
