Its damn good. I watched seemingly every game for years at 635 on tbs to watch my idol. And as he mentions wore #3 every time i could

Great article. The Murph was my favorite player growing up. I am the poster boy for the term "TBS Kid". Those were good times. The Braves on TBS & the Cubs on WGN.

How bad did it suck to turn it on at 6:35 and still see Sanford and Son on? With “Braves Rain Delay” up in the top corner.

Btw, I worshipped Dale Murphy. Went as him for Halloween twice. Had my 3rd grade teacher write an 8th dwarf—Murph—in the school play. Which was a weird mashup up of Snow White and Back to the Future.

When I was a kid playing t-ball in Georgia in the 1980's, I remember all of us having a mock baseball card with our height/weight/etc.

One of the questions on the card was "Who is your favorite baseball player?"

Every single kid had "Dale Murphy" as the answer. Even a teammate of mine whose family was from the DR said "Rafael Ramirez sucks. I like Dale Murphy."

I am a TBS kid. Murph was my favorite player. My teams had fights over who would get #3. I never got picked to be number 3, so I was #44. The number of HRs that Murph had in the previous season. I eventually got to where I couldn't use his HR totals anymore and went with #3 because all of my friends had moved on to other players at that point. My favorite baseball player of all time. I got to shake his hand once at Braves fan day. The only time in my life that I had been star struck. He'd been retired for 15 years at that point too.

In 1985 we drove to Atl for my first game- braves giants on fan day. We were in line forever to go on field and get autographs We got near the front and they said they were cutting the line off because it was getting close to game time

Devestated

The braves won in 10 om a terry harper hr
Pascual perez v vida blue to start

Murphy replied to one of my tweets a few years ago and I nearly died

Yes he did... That whole infield in the mid 80's... Oberkfell/Horner, Ramirez/Thomas, Hubbard, and old man Ted Simmons.

I guess Horner did have that one day where he hit 4 dingers in one game.

2007. But in 2006ish they started playing the majority of Braves games on fox sports. SportsSouth played most of them. Then it was a combo of SportsSouth, FS South, and peachtree TV.

I was born in 1988 and still grew up with braves on tbs just about every single night.

Loved me some 80s Braves! Dale was the king! I loved watching the submariner Gene Garber.

The opening day starter for the 6th year in a row, Rick Mahler

The Joe Torre Braves were fun the time between him and Cox not so much.
